With all the talk about the Confederate Flag, I thought I'd remind people that THIS happened. The "University" of California at Irvine banned the American flag on campus, several other schools have also banned it, yet allow the Mexican flag to fly or be worn on T-Shirts, but wearing the flag of our Nation is considered inflammatory? What world are we living in that we ban our own country's flag? Personally I think we should just find a way to detach California and ship it to the Chinese as a down payment for some of our debt we owe them, but that's just me. Thoughts? Should the universities and schools that do this be cut off from federal and state funding?

Then what? What's the next step? I agree with outing them, but in a generation that seems to not care about patriotism, what do we do to change the perspective? What do we do to ensure that these people are held accountable? They would argue it's their 1st amendment right, but I argue that it's an infringement on my right to support my country. So how do we change it? Where do we start?
SFC (Join to see) This speaks more to the lack of institutional integrity of UC-Irvine by the student council than it does the school that I believe overturned the student council.
It makes sense to me that if they accept public funding they would have to allow the symbols of that nation on campus. I am sure 1st Amendment arguments will exist for their right to omit the symbols of the US, like the Flag.
I don't like the idea of 'forcing' a school to fly the flag, the whole point is to be proud of the ideas: freedom and liberty, it represents.

To you I say "Amen" sir. I agree, nothing particularly patriotism, should be forced upon anyone, it should be something you are naturally proud of. However, if your students vote to ban the flag of the nation they are in, the I think it speaks volumes as to what that school and its educators are teaching.
