Question for graduates from AMU/APU. I am about halfway through my Bachelors in Business management degree and intend on following up with a masters in Business Administration. With a degree in this field & university, what is the general success rate you feel that it directly enhanced career progression? I love Amu, but am on the fence on doing my masters degree with another university to make my resume a little more diverse. Any Suggestions or personal feedback is greatly appreciated.

I think if you are talking diversity in attending a brick and mortar college, then that would make sense. If you are talking another on-line college, or for profit school, I think you might be wiser staying with one you know and trust.

SFC (Join to see) This is really sound advice. If all of you education is online I don't know that you could call it diverse. I have done both. My BA was at a traditional college and my MPA was with AMU. Very different experience. Thanks MSG Brad Sand

I am currently in a Masters degree with AMU. I like it, very informative and they are very friendly. I received my Bachelors degree from Troy University. I was told by a good friend that you should not go to the same school for your Masters and you did for your Bachelors. So yes diversity is a good thing and you should look into other schools for your Masters.

Academic incest is never a good idea, especially when the institution is a for-profit university.

I have also heard the same thing. It makes your resume look more diversified. It is what I am planning to do. I have a few colleges narrowed down for graduate school.

I earned my MBA at Grantham University online. They are very military friendly, and have a supportive and helpful staff.

PFC Sethre,
Awesome, congratulations! What did they charge per semester hour for the masters, and we're the books all online or paid for seperate?

I believe it was about $250 per credit hour for AD/vets. All the textbooks were provided free of charge, some they physically sent to you, some were online.

It was $250 per credit for graduate credits? That's a steal! That's a school I havent considered yet.

AMU/APU Graduates: Would you pursue a Masters from a different school, or continue with AMU/APU?

I'm a big fan of diversity. If you can find another institution that works for you. . . do it. I already have two degrees from AMU, which definitely influenced my decision.

AMU has been awesome, and very affordable! I'm trying to find other schools that compare to it in price. Two degrees, that's great! How long did it take you? I have been doing one class at a time, I think I may up it to two. I want to get this degree finished!

SFC (Join to see) I wish you the very best of luck no matter what your next steps are. You're asking the right questions, to the right folks.
This is a pretty motivational video I found on veteran Wes O'Donnell who holds an AMU graduate degree. I'm sure there are many other success stories out there.

This is a great question. I'm glad you asked it. I am in a similar situation. Reading through the answers gave me some interesting things to research. I personally am looking at going through a different school because I think it would look better on a resume to have a different school for each level of education (undergrad cert, AAS, BA, MBA, PhD, etc).

I've known many people who got a degree from AMU/APEI...they all loved it and most of them went on to get another degree from AMU/APEI after completing the first.

I agree with many of the comments. It is fine for a military/governmental career path, but not well recognized by civilian employers.

I completed my Bachelor's in Intelligence Operations at AMU. I met with an officer in the Master's Program and based on my conversations the course material between the Bachelor's and Master's program isn't that different. From this limited information, I would look at pursuing a degree at a college with more civilian recognition to boost your resume. If you plan on staying in the military, AMU is just as good a choice as any other college.

Thanks for your input, I have been looking into other options for my masters. I think Central Michigan and Trident University both offer great MBA programs for active duty service members. I think a diverse resume post military will be the best choice.

Well hopefully my 2 cents can help. I did my undergraduate degree in history from AMU. Then I changed schools to Trident University International for my MBA. I concentrated on Human Resources Management for my MBA. Success is all relative to be honest. I applied for positions with my MBA and didn't get a single call. It seemed at the time, everyone had/has a business degree so I didn't see any advantage. With that said, the good thing about having an MBA is that there are many positions you can work in. As for switching schools, as a HR professional, I dont like to see a candidate with just one school. It kind of leaves a 'professional student' idea in my mind. Or maybe the individual just 'knows' that school system only kind of thing. Diversify seems to be the norm from the applications I see. Hope it helps.

You're question was answered in several ways. I would add, "dude, masters is even easier than a BA"... seriously!

I am very pleased with AMU and wish I had used it initially. That being said, I am a proponent of using another university when possible for diversity sake and resume building. I do wish AMU had a PhD program though

I see that they are working getting a couple doctoral programs in the school. There's currently a survey asking for interest in it.

I haven't attended AMU/APU, but my BA and two graduate degrees are all from the same school. I think that you should attend the school that provides the education that you want/need to fulfill your personal and career goals.

I did my B.S. with AMU, but switched to Colorado Technical Universty for my M.B.A. because I felt two degrees from AMU might not be the best post Air Force when talking with some employers. CTU was also good in my opinion.
