The more press that's given to the offender, the more of these will happen.

Some of the northern European Countries don't use names (or full names), and this seems to help. It is a voluntary press arrangement rather than a government mandate. As an example, rather than John Smith killed X in ASU it would be John S or Arizonaman killed. No fame appears to reduce instances.

This is so true! Notice how the media even likes to put middle names in their reports... John Wayne Gacy. The round-the-clock coverage, the demagoguing of gun control and mentally hurting people stigmatized but not helped. Kind of a cesspool of media semantics and sensationalization.

It is not normal and should not be accepted as normal. The main problem (my thoughts) is the breakdown of the family system (many broken homes and the homes that aren't broken have many children being raised in front of a gaming console), I do not subscribe to the theory of a village raising your kid.....you are the parent and with that comes parental damned responsibilities! Quit blaming everyone and take responsibility, let the blame lay where it belongs - and it starts with the family!

Awesome comment CSM Michael J. Uhlig. When religion was taken out of almost everything, and guns and killings are accepted as the norm, these killings will continue. It seems to me, a lot of these shooters come from broken homes. If I'm wrong, correct me. For a parent to not know what their kid(s) are involved in, is ridiculous. Like, how would the latest shooters dad not know his son had an arsenal is beyond me. I realize he was in his 20's, but I keep up with all my kids and they are in their 40's.

I agree mostly, but the "village" comment is usually meant to talk about the breakdown of community. Parents have always been ultimately responsible, but up until recently, they had extended family and neighbors to support them. Now? Relationships and responsibilities beyond our immediate households are viewed as inconvenient or wrong. Most of us have no idea who the person that lives directly next door is. The local support system simply doesn't exist any more.

Well you can scream gun control if you want! Until we do something to stop the criminals it won't stop. You start putting this people in the chair and show them that it isn't a free ride to go to jail. Hell they got Libraries, computers, 3 meals a day TV, better medical than most people have and roof over there heads!
Also till we say no GUN FREE zones. They hit people where they know that people have no way to defend themselves! Am I saying that everyone needs a gun, NO but the responsible people that can should. Also put more police on the ground. Does that campus have a police department. I know that some do and they are out patrolling the campuses.

SGT Bryon Sergent, The only ones who can't control their guns are the crazies and the crooks. For a murderer to have 20, 30, 40 years of appeals and on death row that long, is ridiculous. If I murdered someone and was on death row, knowing It's coming, I wouldnt want to sit there for years. I would want it over. Of course we all know everyone in prison is innocent.
