My husband and I are both veterans. We can't watch any of them because we both sit and pick them apart.

I am the same way. Pick them apart a lot. I just have gotten better at keeping my mouth shut when watching them with the family. Especially, about Captain Phillips.

Not for me personally.

Unlike other emotional movies, well-done military movies tend to move me to tears. I love seeing personal stories shared with the world. I feel we have a responsibility to watch documentaries and movies based on true stories, as well as reading the books written by those who witnessed it. We owe them that.

I believe that movies like Saving Private Ryan (fictional, I know), Unbroken (fact-based), American Sniper (fact-based), Band of Brothers (fact-based), The Pacific (fact-based), and may others, should be MANDATORY VIEWING in high-schools.

Kids should *KNOW* these stories, and the courage and sacrifice and suffering that was laid down to protect and preserve our way of life. I don't see it as indoctrinating them, but rather, opening their eyes and minds to it all. For some, it will push them far away from joining the military. For others, it will strengthen their decision to enlist.

I agree with you completely Cpl Anthony Pearson. I personally believe if more kids today saw these and truly learned of our history in school they would have a better sense of understanding and RESPECT those who have served before them and the sacrifices made. It is not indoctrination. The first person who tells me that will be throat punched. I watched Pearl Harbor and that one just blew me away. I also on this same vein believe that instead of a day off of school, Veterans day should be an educational format where speakers come in and talk of their experiences, and films shown. I'll get off of my soapbox now.

CPL Anthony Pearson, thanks for your service. On the point all children should watch war movies young .. AMEN. Look at our politics. Many serve who never served and that is bad for those who do and did. Mainly because cut backs and a low moral military makes a good target for all our enemies.

I just watched Fury wit Brad Pitt and it is a great movie but the ending may be hard for some. It is right up there with We Were Soldiers and Saving Pvt Ryan.

Uniform discrepancies ruin movies for me, especially ones that have to do with the Air Force and I KNOW go against AFI 36-2903. Overlooking of certain customs and courtesies... Like calling a Chief "Sergeant" make me cringe. Things like Tyreese Gibson's charater in Transformers being a TSgt in the first movie then a CMSgt in the second movie... I mean, really?

I also, coming from the IC, get a kick out of hearing someone say "I have higher than Top Secret clearance". We all know there is nothing higher than TS, just caveats.

Here are interesting factoids about Transformers 1.

1. It was backed by AF film liaison office aka, AF Hollywood.
2. All the AF background characters were actual AF personnel stationed at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM with the exception of the UAV/RPA crew, who were real MQ-9 crew dogs out of Creech NV.
3. Kirtland was playing the part of AL Udeid. In the movie they generically called it "AFCENT base somewhere in SW Asia."
4. On Kirtland it was filmed on the flight line for the 58th SOW, the special ops C-130 and Helo school house.

I never expect those movies to reflect real life circumstances. They aren't into the truth business. Occasionally they can catch some snippet of reality, but only for the sake of entertainment. Actually I would be unhappy if they were too realistic. I wouldn't care to see actual tactics and capabilities displayed to the world for free. If they can depict the person inside the uniform properly I'm content. Sometimes I do have to laugh at the story lines and special effects, case in point being where in "Battleship" the alien is blasted off the bow with a main gun while the hero is hanging off a hand rail a few feet away. In real life the concussion would have most likely shattered his skull, yet he's not even stunned.....Stupid? Yes! But entertaining.......

I just saw American Sniper. I can't speak to the realism of combat as I was peace time Navy. As a chaplain though, the military funerals tore me up. But then they always do. ..

Just completed my 25th mission with Patriot Guard a while back. I keep the email notices and handouts at every service I attend. I'm sad and distraught during the services, but we can't let it show. We have to stand strong for the families. On the ride home though, I'm satisfied that Respects and Honors were rendered to those who deserved them and it makes me feel better.

I don't watch "war" movies. Too many friends I'll never see again.

I have no problem watching movies with a military theme though. I loved the The Last Castle (Robert Redford), and even the 2 GI Joe movies which were so absurd (from a technical) it wasn't even funny.

What I don't get is with all the veterans who are all over the place why can they higher 1 or 2 as consultants. That way they can at least give a proper salute instead of that limp dick retarted half assed left handed shit

They often do but the problem is the writers don't care. They are going to write a crazy story so people will watch it. WW2 Marine ace Greg Boyington was a consultant for the 70s show Baa Baa Black Sheep (later renamed Black Sheep Squadron) and he gave up arguing with them and just sat around and collected a pay check.

The movie "WE WERE SOLDIERS" by Mel Gibson, brought the point to close to home. I have watched several others though that, to me at least, we're a real joke and an insult to the men and women who fought, would rather watch sience fiction, same thing.
