Thought Project. Before during after Military we're Civilians in Uniform. We are taught group think family, school, friends, cliques, military, police etc.
Fact, Constitution of the United States Preamble starts "We the People". That is 1 large group, 2 separate Justice Systems civilian and military, seemingly complicating 1 group dramatically. Energy should be invested in simplicity.

No! Service Members are not "civilians in uniform". While it is true that a Soldier (Sailor, Airman or Marine) starts out as a civilian, not all civilians have what it takes to become a Soldier, and thankfully, in America, not all civilians have to. The Military life is one filled with sacrifice...losses...want...trials and tribulations...that not every "civilian" can or would even want to handle. I'll let Toby Keith finish the point for me!

I just watched part of Toby Keith Video. There is a 1776 American Revolutionary War soldier when 13 Colonies State Militias citizen-ed up soldiers sailors real quick by any means necessary against Great Britain. Pride Honor Dignity Freedom the battle cry.

2017 a different world. I believe we can all share similar, all 100% citizens, less the % unable mentally physically, to do something similar to a large citizen sailor soldier always on call ready and waiting pre-trained better compensated fully understood respected shared reserve type self defense program, starting in pre-adult education.

1973 Due Vietnam The draft was abolished. Many Citizens example Kent State protest random draft. The draft was unequal and random and instantaneous which creates fear, whenever the master switch is switched by someone you never meet and only see on TV. Even draft at highest level of use would affect directly 10% or less total society citizens service member drafted and their immediate family and friends. The AVF All Volunteer Force began Enlisting with recruitment incentive programs, professional service members, career minded patriotic citizens. Post 1973, 99% Citizens do not know military fundamentals directly 1. Swear Oath of Enlistment protect self and society "We the People" of which an Oath of Enlistment is Sword to Defend the Constitution of the United States which anchors all citizens in and out of uniform. I desire uniformity. I desire a society of civilians who all are taught in education systems the same dignity respect honor integrity selflessness that only 1% these days volunteer.

For Marines, once a Marine, always a Marine.

True. You may report to boot camp as a civilian, but on graduation day......you are a Marine. And you are a Marine on that day, and every day for the rest of your life. While we all leave active duty at some point, the person you became while on active duty stays with you.

Perhaps, with the destruction of standards, I mean, with the change to gender neutral standards your question might be closer to the truth.
