Assistance is going to vary from state to state (even from locale to locale).

I would start with your state's Department of Veteran Services* and see if they have a listing of attorneys or firms for that state that can assist.

Many VA facilities have legal service volunteers that provide free legal clinics*

The American Bar Association has links* to different programs to help veterans such as the ABA's Military Pro Bono Project and ABA Home Front.

As Lt Col Charlie Brown mentioned - contact local chapters of Veteran Service Organizations*. Many times they will have their own 'internal' support structure to help veterans.
