A few thoughts on this Saturday's match-up:
1.) 113 years of tradition. No matter who you're pulling for, we ALL can respect that.
2.) Few of these athletes will ever get a sniff at the NFL. No. For many, this is their proverbial Super Bowl. For the seniors, in particular, this is likely the last time they'll ever take the grid.
3.) These guys are great athletes --But, they're even better students. To simply get accepted to either USNA or USMA, these young men have already proven their academic prowess.
4.) We're getting a preview of our nation's military leadership. This game showcases men who can show his discipline, physical skills, speed, strength, intellect, teamwork, and... yes... emotion.
5.) W/L Records mean nothing. Streaks mean nothing. However, the opportunity to wear the uniform, strap on the ol' helmet, and take the field with your buddies... Well, that means something.
Fellow RP members, regardless of your team (even it's Air Force), I hope you can have a cold beer or two with your shipmates or battle-buddies this weekend. Find a comfortable chair. And, Enjoy the Game!
And yes, please vote for your team.

A great traditional football rivalry. Hard to take sides. My Dad was in the Navy, so we always watched the game on TV. I was commission in the Regular Army, but went through the ROTC program at Tulane University, rather than the US Military Academy. I view the Army and Navy football teams both as football adversaries to my alma mater. This year Tulane played both, losing at Navy and winning at West Point. Listening to the Tulane coach's admiration the Cadets and Midshipmen as future leaders willing to serve their county at the end each game was heart warming. For the Army-Navy game each schools' win-loss records is meaningless. I know that both will put up a good fight and hope everyone will enjoy the game.

SFC Stephen King - But, a tie would result in no clear winner of the CinC's Trophy. Although no one would get to put their school's name on it for the year, a deadlocked game would result in the hardware being returned to Colorado Springs.
But, I appreciate your divided perspective!

Capt Mark Strobl You're right about the streaks and records not meaning anything. After an abysmal 2-9 season, my alma mater, Oregon State, hung 42 on their rivals, Oregon, in the Civil War game, and were within 3 points late in the 4th. It was a great game, so yeah, I'm not assuming that Navy will outright win, even though I'll poke fun at Army.
