As a member of the NG, can I go to Japan or Korea with my AD husband, or would I have to switch to AD to go with him?

I’m in the GA guard and my husband is at fort hood. His window to re-enlist is soon. He’s thinking Japan or Korea or anywhere out the country. Is there a way I can go being Guard or would I have to switch to AD to go with him?

Your chances of going as a member of the GA guard are very small / impossible. There are few or no slots for PFC attached to the Guard and you would have to be transferred from your current NG unit.
If you want to go overseas with your husband and you want active duty, you need to request enrollment into the Married Army Couples Program, this is where the Army will attempt to keep you within 100 miles of each other for dual career assignment.
First, you will need the GA NG to agree to release you. You will find most the time the Guard does not want to release you because they have their own recruiting and retention goals.
If you want to go with your husband as a spouse, not tied to an active assignment, this may possible but again, the GA NG will need to transfer you to Inactive NG roster.
Your best bet is to be straight with your Command admin personnel and find out what is possible. You can call military one source or the Human Resources Command they may have information.

An accompanied tour overseas is three years. You can look into a conditional release to switch to Army or Air Force Reserves if there is a Reserve unit near where he will be stationed, or just request a hardship discharge from the Guard because you will be moving OCONUS and international flights for drill would be a financial hardship.
If you go AD, you would likely end up in the BCT/AIT pipeline during his tour, making that OCONUS tour a one year unaccompanied.

You can also go into the inactive ready reserve and go on tours there in Korea. I knew an inactive ready Reserve major that was working for Army North, 5th Army at Fort Sam Houston. He had a 5 months contract as what are the lead planners for facilitating us participation in Maple Resolve.

What you would need to do is transfer tot he inactive Nation Guard (it is the equivalent to the IRR). Your spouse also needs permission to bring you. Once in Japan, you can look and see if there are any reserve units. I am not sure if there are any non CONUS units in the reserves.
