We are living in a pretty turbulent time for sure, with China poised to surpass the US in its economic power, to civil strife and disorder in the states nearly bringing us to what one could only describe as a civil war. Im genuinely terrified of this notion since I'm stationed overseas and am concerned because Im not sure that if shit hits the fan back home, I can for sure go back, assist in ending that problem, securing the states, and ensure that my parents and other family are safe from possibly deadly conflict. At what point does the DOD or Army say "enough is enough" and call us back to the US to defend our homes and families? Is it unreasonable for me to be scared and uncertain?

I don't think your extrapolation of current environment to civil war is accurate. I would not sweat it.

FYI, China is still 50 years away from surpassing the U.S. if that is what you are worried about. Their increase in Gross Domestic Product is down to 6% per year when it was as high as 14% over 15 years ago and has been steadily declining due to more countries moving operations to other Asian countries with cheap labor and better human rights records.

The U.S. GDP has been chugging along increasing on average 2.5% per year. So China is making small gains each year but steadily losing steam. If they don't address their hardline tactics and threats in the South China Sea they will only lose more customers to other countries with cheap labor.

The U.S. is almost to 22 Trillion a Year in GDP while China is only at 14 Trillion. At the rate their GDP increases are declining it may actually be close to a 100 years if ever before they catch the U.S. We are not going anywhere.

Don't fret over the current political affairs, they will be resolved one way or the other come November 3rd. And there have been worse protests in our countries history, there was no reason to call in active-duty units then, there won't be now. The majority of the protests have been peaceful, the problem is with the digital age more of the bad gets out about both protestors' bad acts and police brutality where in the past a lot of it would have been swept under the rug if not caught on film.

There is no reason to return to protect your families because your families are not in danger if they are not involved. No BLM members are out looking to start trouble, it is always the lone wolves trying to make something happen and those people have been arrested and charged by the police. The Rodney King protests were much worse than anything BLM has going on.

China and Russia would have to be landing on our Beaches.

Anyone thinking about a civil war being on the cusp needs to realize that isn't even remotely on the horizon until individual State National Guard units are organized or ordered by their Gov's to resist Federal actions. That's an indicator that things are going to be serious. That would scare me.

Right now, many are using the environment to just go bat shit crazy. However, there doesn't seem to be any remotely coordinated armed resistance.
