It was announced today that the investigation for Sgt. Bergdahl has been concluded. What do you think is going to come out of the review process?

Unfortunately I agree with you. It seems like the leadership in this nation has its priorities backwards.

That he deserted his unit. Although he was a PFC at te time, he really couldn't give any good intelligence other than tactical (which is what he only knew as a PFC). He should get a dishonorable but the Army will go higher than that and give him something honorable because he was held captive for 5 years. Like I said in another thread when he was exchanged.....the brass has been told that this needs to go away very quietly

I'm sure they'll try but to be honest I don't know if everything will work out how they want it to. I wouldn't be surprised if the media blows this thing up and there is a public outcry to hear the results. But then again I wouldn't be surprised if nothing happened at all.

Everything I've read on this topic suggests he deserted. Will be interesting to see the outcome.

Sir I would hope that they at least get him on that charge. But I don't know if they'll do it or just sweep everything under the rug.

MAJ (Join to see) I do know someone who was there when this sorry excuse of a Soldier DESERTED his fellow brother's in arms. What he told me about the situation is that he did DESERT and was listed as a deserter. This kid went so far as to tell his "buddies" that he was going for a shower and never returned. Do I think this information will ever be officially released and we can make our own educated decision about the circumstances? NO. I do believe Bergdahl should be sent to Ft. Leavenworth for the rest of his life due to being a deserter so he can't put anyone else's life in jeopardy again.

MSG (Join to see) I vote death penalty over life in prison, it's much more cost effective and I think we wasted enough money on this oxygen thief.

More than likely nothing. At best, he'll get an honorable discharge with some severance pay.

It does make me wonder what the rest of the story is? If he is worth 5, I cannot begin to understand what a soldier would be worth in trade by this standard?

Here's an interesting article on the Bergdahl investigation. I think the author makes some good points:

Ma'am, Probably a good time to note there was more than likely already an investigation completed, when he first disappeared, which determined he was AWOL, abandon his post, and further determined it was an intentional act on his part. Just surmising, but I find it impossible to believe no investigation would have been done when a Soldier was not available to redeploy with his unit.

I cannot imagine this investigation would find or produce any contradictory information to the aforementioned. I also remember Soldiers died looking for him. Consequently, my questions are: At what point does political agenda overshadow the loss of life looking for a deserter and probable traitor? When does dishonorable service become honorable? Finally, and most importantly how do we apologize to the honorable Veterans who served with him who spoke out and told what they new, but were chastised by the executive branch as being "wrong?" Which brings up, how can witnesses who were there and whose stories corroborate each other, be wrong?

Troubling times.

SFC Dr. Joseph Finck, BS, MA, DSS I gotta say you're right. And its absolutely frustrating to think of all the trouble that this one individual has caused and to think that he could get off with maybe only a wrist slap is the worst part. I think the worst part isn't his desertion but the fact that soldiers were killed looking for him and their deaths won't be justified by this government. It seems very clear to everyone and yet I think everyone on this page already sees the outcome of the situation and it's not one that is fair to anyone. This piece of shit human being deserves to be in jail for the rest of his life, actually better yet they should just give him the death penalty...he's earned that.

1LT (Join to see) Ma'am, correct me if I am wrong, but desertion (Article 85 UCMJ) in time of war rates the death penalty.

O you're correct SFC Dr. Joseph Finck, BS, MA, DSS. At least it was the regulation before the whole "kinder and gentler" crap came along.
