SGM Matthew Quick I have an SM who is due for reenlistment in the next few months. Also he requested me to set him up to do it in the gas chamber, Because I`m the company CBRN\NBC rep. I asked his PL and our CO. They would like to avoid the gas chamber, and it`s a coin toss as to if we will have his new PL and CO in about that time frame. Any advice for me to get him what he wants? I have strongly hinted towards if 1 officer will not do it. Then I will do my best to arrange a company wide gas chamber so maybe they would think: We`re already here so may as well.

I realize that is it probably too late... but I would find any CW2 or above that would be willing to do it. Did he specify mask on or off? This Soldier is motivated to do something he loves, why not hook him up? Take plenty of pictures...

SFC (Join to see) It is not to late, his window is going to open in a couple weeks. However the retention NCO for our company claims that it would not make for a valid reenlistment ceremony and SM would have to do another ceremony. And cited CS gas would damage\degrade the flag and would not be allowed... But then again my current team leader in charge of planning\calender for the company said that scheduling a gas chamber is above company level and will come down from higher up when they want it done. Because I tried setting up a platoon gas chamber upon request of certain squad leaders. My opinion and please do correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds a lot like some people don`t want the gas chamber. Just my opinion however, I do not know ins and outs of operations. Also SM offered to buy his own flag and mask on. But I have considered a pin hole 10 level malfunction just so I can get my laugh too if he doesn`t PMCS it....

hahaha I agree with your assessment, this is the extract of AR 601-280
f. The ceremony is an official act and should be conducted accordingly. In some cases, soldiers and commands desire the ceremony to be conducted in connection with activities such as parachuting, climbing utility poles, and other similar acts. These activities are not in keeping with the solemnity associated with the oath of enlistment/reenlistment and will not be part of the ceremony.
So...I can see where they are coming in regards to an administrative ceremony. I have a plastic-ish type flag that I have used for reenlistments under water (I conducted an "admin" swearing-in of the Soldier in my office prior to the actual ceremony.
This is a hot topic in my field right now. I would get advice from your servicing Counselor. But, if you give the Soldier exactly what he wants, it will do wonders for your commanders program.
As for the gas chamber I have no idea what local regulation are in so far as training areas. What about CS gas grenades? You would not need the chamber in that case.

I knew several sailors that re-enlisted at both Safeco Field and Century Link Field. Was going to try to do it at Century Link during halftime of a Seahawks game, but they were on a three game road trip the year I did it.

I don't believe it's possible to beat that location.
Regarding the uniform of choice, I believe the one being worn is appropriate over a dress uniform. The Constitution is a declaration of freedom for the oppressed and a declaration of war against an oppressor. Might as well dress for the occasion as opposed to looking like you're going to the prom.

My last reenlistment took place in Balad, Iraq.
Such an important location yet you couldn't be bothered to put on your Class A uniform on....lame. ACUs look dumpy in that setting for reenlistment.

I don't understand how anybody can think this this is an appropriate setting for a reenlistment ceremony. It looks to me like folks are equating reenlistment in the Army as akin to a video game. I just don't get it.

This is one as a Career Counselor (with 20-years as a 79S) that I would have advised the Commander to change the location. Unfortunaely some Career Counselors let the Unit Reenlistment NCO take care of the logistics and don't ask questions.

A promotion from Petty Officer 1st Class to Ensign - probably the first ever to be done in Afghanistan. We had his wife Skyped-in from NYC.
