Can a corporal in a team leader position have me do corrective action (“smoke” me)? And was I wrong to tell him to eat a bag of dicks?

We just got a new Corporal who recently reclassed to mortars. He’s highly motivated (hooah), and during a training event, we had a disagreement over how to perform large deflections. He told me to "drop," but the fire mission he was calling would’ve put us outside the safety fan during a live fire and could have potentially caused injuries to other elements participating in the exercise.
Now, I understand and respect his rank, but I’ve been a mortarman longer and currently serve as the Gun 2 gunner. The fact is—he was wrong. He just became an 11C, and when he wouldn’t listen to correction or reason, I told him (admittedly out of frustration) to eat a bag of d***s.
I’m curious to hear what others think—especially when it comes to situations where rank clashes with experience and safety is on the line.

Nah, Pumpkin. You’re fine. Rank is more of a suggestion for Generational Z members. The leadership just hopes that you do the right thing. Ya’ll usually do, since whatever it is that you’re doing, you think IS the right thing. Enjoy your time in The Suck.

I see that this is an old post so please don't get onto me for only reading it just now. Anyway, the things I thought about after I retired that I should have thought about during my 21 active years.
If the Corporal was patient and creative he might have said, "oh wait, I misspoke there; my mistake your fault". Try to keep it light and move on smoothly and also try and learn from the "expertise" all Specialists "think" has been bestowed upon them just for being in a couple years. Just listen and see if you pick up anything. I personally would not ask a Soldier to teach me anything, but go to the SL or PSG. Some of those SPC in the so-called SP4 mafia think that they should be a CPL when the potential for leadership is just not there. The excuse or self justification then can become, "I'm an E-4 and you're an E-4 so we are equal. This belief is not only technically incorrect, it's just plain childish. And that is why that potential for leadership is not there. Most likely this 11C will do his 3 or 4 years, take his college money, probably won't use it and if he does tell a bunch of BS stories. He will tell the story of how he once told a CPL to eat a bag of dicks. Then he'll get more detailed and say he kicked the Corporal's ass after he got in his face. This will be the reason he got out as a PFC and not a SPC; not truthfully telling the story that he got out as a PFC or lower because he was a smart ass and otherwise just a dirtbag in general. Now for the corrective action. "Oh, you like large deflection changes do you? SECTION..." Then it would not at all be corrective really, it would simply be training. And the military loves training. Yep, the things I think about years later. Oh yeah, and the PFC that got out...he was a real person, and dirtbag who could only muster up the energy in his overweight carcass to get the minimum on the APFT. No loss for the Army.

First off you disrespected an NCO. Second you need to learn how to approach with tactics. He may of reno classified from another MOS and you have more time in the skill it is your responsibility to share your knowledge to build an effective team, after all communication is a two way deal. He has every right to drop you. I would of had you doing push ups until I got tired

You are lucky you still have enough teeth in your disrespectful mouth to eat a bag yourself. The rank of Corporal is a revered rank among the NCO corp and in my era was supported up and down the chain of command. Especially coming from the combat arms side these issues were normally settled in ways that one of you would remember for the rest of your existence.

I'm old Army but had that happened in my unit, you would have been given an Article 15 no questions asked.

I know that I am only a "Chair Force" warrior but for heaven's sake, even asking your question raises a whole bunch of other issues. Do you understand what "good order and discipline is?" Do you understand that if we do not have good order and discipline there is a great possibility that people may be injured or killed because of the lack of it? Army guys deal in close combat where following orders is of the utmost importance. You are not a Wal-Mart employee. You are trained to kill people, blow stuff up, and generally ruin the enemy's day. To do that you have to follow orders (not the ones you like, or the ones you think make sense). I worked in Security Police (now Security Forces) protecting aircraft, explosives, and even nukes. I never would have disobeyed a lawful order (and I have been given some stupid ones) and never did. You are a soldier defending your country and the people you love who live here. Act like it.

Forget being in the military, but in whatever situation you're in, telling someone to eat a bag of dicks, is not a smart career move.

A Corporal is a Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) and is an E-4. A Specialist is also an E-4 but is not an NCO. However in every case you disrespected an OFFICER over you, whether or not he was a Specialist or a Corporal because he was was what? The Team Leader and you were aware of his position. It is total disrespect. I support an Article 15 and some down time as additional training so that you develop a respect for the protocol of military service. You might even consider requesting to be discharged as unfit for military service as apparently you were too immature to be a soldier let alone to have been Recruited in the first place. I fault the Recruiter for failing to observe your immature tendencies from the onset of the recruiting process. Getting numbers tallied for recruiting points fails the service if you recruit for the numbers not the integrity and maturity of the individual. .
I was 00E40/79D30 in the late 1970s-early 1980s. I was pretty good at weeding out the Chaff before the Enlistment concluded.
