Needs of the Army was not around when I was in. Whatever you reenlisted for you got it. Go to Germany for 3 years, home on leave, contract portion completed for Germany. Rest of the time, enjoy the world, complements of the US Army.

I was able to have my contract amended. I was living in Europe when I enlisted, with an address in Austria, which became my home of record. This meant that upon ETS my household goods and vehicle were not eligible for shipment back to the US. Thankfully, I had an awesome NCO who helped me get the contract amended to the state in which I was born and had, luckily, filed state taxes in each year. I implied no malice on my recruiters part in my request. It was an oversight to arrange transport CONUS for OSUT, and lack of understanding of the implications on my part. I am very grateful to all who were involved in helping me sort out this issue, and I learned a great deal about contracts in the process!

Bro, you're a Sgt that doesn't understand that you are responsible for your career, and that the military can send you where they need you. My suggestion? Suck it up, act like an NCO for a minute, and be a leader.

When you sign s contract with the U.S. military you have to understand something, you're not joining the Salvation Army. You could be sent anywhere at anytime, its just the nature of being in a military service. If you don't like it, by all means move on.

First, read and clarify what you don't understand before you sign anything. Second, as noted before, stabilization is only 1-12 months at current station, then it is as needed, which means you can be reassigned to whereever the army needs you.

When I reenlisted not only was I lied to. I was supposed to sign a 3 year contract and ended up being a 4 year one. I was also allowed to sign all my paperwork the same day that I had a surgery that I was under anesthesia for. I was in no shape to read or sign any paperwork but they were in such a hurry and said it had to be signed that day. Being young and stupid, as well as high off my butt since I just had surgery I didn't clearly read everything, but hay what do you do. Thanks to a shitty NCO for screwing me over.

Lied is a strong term, misinformed and also do your duty is another. The premise of your owed something for your continued service is at best self serving and not in line with Army Values. We all get assignements not to our liking or wants, so be it, do your Duty, are you a soldier or a employee?

MSG, are you justifying lying or misleading troops to meet a retention quota? I have not been replying to this post for nearly the entirety of the time that it has been posted and it seems that everyone gets real intelligent once a situation has played out and the outcome is already known. I posted here to try to get some advice on how to get out of a situation that I had found myself in with no experience nor guidance on how to correct it. Let's clarify things for all the "lied to is a strong term" and "be careful whom you accuse of lying" comments, I know what a lie is and I was told one thing would happen, and something else happened. Given my zero experience with reenlisting at the time I had no basis on which to start my research. When you join the Military you are taught that you are to conduct yourself with honor right? So if I live my life with that engrained into my behavior why should i automatically mistrust everyone I come across? As for the details of the reenlistment contract itself, as I have stated before I did read it and did understand what I was reading.

At my last station I was made re-enlistment NCO. I think because I was the new guy. Wasn't bad, when all the crap from TET was over got to go to Bn for a week of training. I only promised the men two things. 1. Their VRB money AND 2. The got to keep wearing green. They wanted Germany, England, the States no problem. They wanted the assignment for 4 years, now there was a problem. I would remind them of what they were told in Basic, " if the Army wanted you to have a wife, it would issue you one." Whatever the Army wanted, is what you got. Anyone in long enough to re-up knew how it worked and should expect no supprises.

As a Non Commissioned officer you should know to pay attention to details. You have the contact you also have the area where the YOU, with your own hand write what the Army promises you. Non Commissioned Officers find solutions, they don't complain. So your research if you think something immoral, unethical, or illegal was done.
