This is for the admins. Is there a way to remove the points given to the members? I'm speaking ONLY for myself. I post because I like it here, not for the points, and I'd be happier if I didn't have any at all. I don't see this as a "contest" to win or anything of the sort. Liking my post or even disliking it shows me what I want to see and that's interaction with people.

I find the whole points system an odd thing as well. If I post something someone thinks is really stupid, and they go "who the hell is this dumbass?" and click on my profile, I get points for that. The correlation between inluence points and real influence seems pretty weak to me. You can connnect to a zillion people and rarely actually post any thoughts, and earn lots of points. It's sort of like having a top frequent flyerlist populated with people who earn points by using a credit card instead of flying.

But as long as they still have the RP Influence Point Catalog, I'm hanging in there for my dream prize coffee mug.

SSG Warren Swan - I feel the same way. I don't really see any value to the point system. I think each person quickly determines those people they respect the opinions of and those they don't, regardless of influence points. I've been on other forums where they list your join date and have various titles based on how many posts you have made. That gives people some indcation of your experience and participation level on the board. But the whole "influence point" thing, and the connection as a top "influencer" seems a bit contrived to me, to tell the truth.

But what do I know? I still can't figure out why the Answers tab isn't called the Questions Tab. When you click on NEW in the ANSWERS tab, doesn't that mean there is a new question, not a new answer?

If people are clicking on your profile a lot more than other profiles, it is a reflection that you have more influence in the community. It does not say that people agree with you more, but influence can exist both as positive and negative influence. Certainly if nobody is looking at a person's profile, it is hard to argue that person has more influence than somebody who is looked at all the time.

Secondly, if you send a contact request and have it accepted, after a while you only get 2 points. Yet if somebody rejects your contact request, you lose 30 points. So if a member is able to build a large network of contacts, who then see his/her posts in their feeds more, that also correlates to the influence one has. Simply put, if somebody has more contacts, more people see your post, which is a directional increase in one's influence (whether good or bad).

"Influence Score" is not a measure of virtue. It is a measure of how much other people are taking note of you and your content, which is certainly correlated to how influential one is.

You all make it fun believe me. I'm not trying to make it a pity party for me, I just see the value of the site more than the value of the points.
