I am going back to basic training as an E-4, after a few years out of the service. I am Airborne and Air Assault qualified...should I wear (if it's allowed of course) my patches...or should I just try to keep a low profile? What would you do?

My recommendation- wear them proudly and provide new Soldiers an opportunity to ask you questions about them. For these new Soldiers, you will be the first Soldier they regularly interact with that isn't a Drill Sergeant and they will be little sponges. Wearing them with pride will give you an opportunity to share your experiences with them and an opportunity for them to learn from you and your Army experience.

Best of luck in Basic Training!

TSgt (Join to see) - So, you're going to state the word "Woke" about the military and yet you seem not to know what the word Woke means, just filling you in it means Socially Aware, and alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination. Things that the military has been addressing for decades.

I was raised in the military (An Army Brat) lived on military bases until I enlisted when my dad was in Nam. Having been raise and living in a military cocoon I never really experienced racism until basic training in '69. I did not like it then and still do not. Racists are ignorant Alpha Hotels. Some of my best leaders were black and the only two Queers I know are good men who don't try to push their life choices on others. They also raised 4 great hetro kids from a previous hetro marriage.
I have been OCONUS since '04. Therefore, you are probably correct I do not know what this new Woke crap is about and the alphabet cult has me completely bewildered. From what I read it includes mutilating our children, inventing a bunch of new pronouns, spending defence dollars for sex changes and such crap, pushing science aside claiming there are more than 2 sexs/genders. Denying the shameful facts about our history, And what is with this gay pride month crap? A month to celebrat packing pudding and mental disorders but only one day for Veterans? One day to celebrat our independance, one day to remember our fallen heros. Woke seems to be about not hurt feelings. Who cares about hurting feelings. We should train to be the best strongest military in the world same same as before.
What I am pretty sure is "WOKE" is not about training to defend our shores. It is not about training a stronger military, woke is not about making stronger smarter troops, Woke is not about battlefield strategy.
What I do know is there are Two sexes/genders with very few exceptions Male and Female and yes some naturally born hermaphrodites less than .0005%
And one race. The human race.
BTW Shsffer my ?? were becasue I did not understand your comment. Now it seems our military is leading use in the wrong directions. I am old and probably will not see our nation cumble I only regret my progeny will.

TSgt (Join to see) - I biggest problem for our military readiness is finding recruits that are physically fit and can pass the drug test. Denying our shameful pass? It seems that only a few in politics want to bury the pass, CRT has been taught for years now and "boom" now it's a problem. Mutilating children? Every state has laws as to when any such surgery can be performed and most of them is age 17 a few is 18, what need to change is age for marriage and consent for sex. Alabama the age for consent for sex is 16, Tennessee is working on passing a bill to overturn gay marriages which will supersede their present marriage laws, 18 is the age 17 with parents' consent now but the new bill doesn't have an age limit, making it legal to marry a 12-year-old or even younger. The medical sex changing of children is made up. Now there are puberty blockers that will delay puberty to a point for a young preteen giving them time to make up their minds with concealing. As Veterans we always make sacrifices, nothing new there, I don't need a whole month to be recognized and Pride month is really just a money maker for small businesses in the area that parades are held at bars, restaurants, vendors, local security, port-a-johns, a lot of money is spent some businesses need that little injection of cash. It's like Valentines Day it was invented in order to just sell more greeting cards, which is mow a billion-dollar enterprise. WOKE is about including all those around you, Soldiers who are comfortable with their surroundings, train more and learn more with confidence as to who they are and what is it that they are defending. I would rather have a platoon of gay folks wanting to defend our country, then a bunch that is only there for the college money and just want to do just enough the get by. do I believe that English should be our national language "Yes" non-English speaking folks don't have to serve because they can't communicate and teaching them English in the military would take months! I had a soldier who enlisted into the Puerto Rico National Guard which don't need English to join however he transferred to regular Army. I had to learn Spanish and he had to learn English to communicate on just a basic level. Gay being a mental illness is not so, however those that are gay have a larger connection area to both halves of the brain, then those who are straight. They are just doing what their brain is really telling them to do. So, who really has the mental illness? Because of our connection of the two halves of our brains is smaller does it mean we don't have full use of our brains?

I have sort of been there a couple of times. You are probably already going to stand out because I'm assuming your head will not be firmly planted up your fourth point of contact. Wearing the badges will probably just draw more attention than you really want second time around. Just be a sharp soldier and lead from the middle (until they figure it out and actually make you lead).

I went into the Air Guard... I wear everything... CIB, SF and RANGER tabs and Jump and Air Assault wings. The Air Force is much different than the Army however my uniform speaks to experiences that are beneficial in our decision making process.

I am automatically provided deference which I use to take care of my troops. Loyalty is a 2 way street and your Wings will show the Soldiers that you have already volunteered for above and beyond the "basic" soldier. Use your experience to guide and mentor them.

SSgt Douglas Nathan - there are actually 5 points of contact when referring to Parachuting out of an aircraft and landing. these are the contact points that should hit the ground in order to execute a perfect PLF (Parachute Landing Fall)
1 Balls of the feet
2 Calf muscle
3 Thigh
4 Buttocks
5 Pushup muscle (Basically your Lat Muscle)

Very rarely do they all touch and more times then not its more like Feet, Ass, Head!

SPC (Join to see) Wearing the badges you have earned is your right, and it will likely draw attention from cadre who may not have achieved the same.

There's a recent article out there somewhere by a guy (prior service) who had to go through Basic again at the age of 59.

He said that half the cadre gave him some extra' attention" and half pretty much left him alone because they figured he "knew someone".
