Had an interesting moment where in a soldier had me direct dial his BN CMD while correcting him about him wearing black lipstick, earrings, finger jewlery and ripped pants.

The CMD informed me I needed to read the regulations, which I have done so.

As far as I've read and know, there has been no update that allows male soldiers to wear this off-duty while on post.

I guess if your Liberal Democrat you would have no problem with and fight to have the G.O. changed to allow it

I'd like to mention I know both these soldiers personally. This NCO is trying to harass this soldier. For one, the soldier was not wearing earrings. For two, this is overseas in Japan were there is no dress code policy. For three, please watch what you say as this is the soldiers lifestyle off duty and it is not your place to judge or imply they are unprofessional, as we have soldiers that are both transgender and homosexual, just because it doesn't fit your heterosexual discriminative culture doesn't make it wrong either. And lastly, if the BN CMD is telling you it's right, who are you to question it? Unless it is morally or ethically wrong. The commander told them what's up, and they're continuing to choose to haze/bully this soldier. So think before you make a nasty comment about this soldier or your version of off duty professional appearance, especially because there are other cultures out there other than Westernized culture. This post is an investigation waiting to happen, and oozes both toxic leadership and bad, old Army ways.

I'm also not discrediting you, I just believe it's interesting that your draw the line with breaking regulations at men wearing lipstick.

SGT (Join to see) - Enough to know what you state is BS, I live just a few miles from Toyota NA HQ lots of Japanese moving into the area and I have yet to see a Japanese businessman in makeup or wearing lipstick or for that matter in pants with holes in them. Japanese culture is very conservative excluding the 18-25 year old peer group you keep referencing.

SPC Guenther, no what I'm not talking about isn't BS. There is a side to the Japanese world and culture that has been around for hundreds of years before boy bands and punk kids. You're also using business men coming to America, and dressing as Americans do. You're only seeing one faction of the Japanese culture with them. Maybe not ripped jeans or lipstick. Japanese men commonly wear eyeliner, lip stains, eyebrow stains, and coverup. They might wear a suit, but their attire is about looking sharp and that includes trimming up there look with makeup. As well as, the traditional art forms the Japanese follow to include men wearing Yukatas, a Japanese garment and lipsticks. As well as the whole 18-25 year old thing just isn't a thing, after work and off duty 50 year old men throw on makeup, ripped jeans, studded belts and etcs. You can't use an example of business men while on duty to discuss someone off duty.

CPL you'd be wrong. So much wimpification of the Army and America, and it's not men wearing makeup. It's the once that have a hissy fit over it and act like sniveling children over lipstick.

COL Williams; what do you mean yes? Male Soldiers are not authorized to wear earrings or cosmetics. If the Soldiers is transitioning to the female gender this change must be annotated on the DA Form 1172 and ERB with guidance from a military physician. The regulation states that the enforcement of the regulation is for on and off duty and on and off post. I am just enquiring because I have been given a number of briefs by the Brigade Commander and Battalion Commander because they are the only ones authorized by DA to give the new transgender brief to the formation. The question that was presented would defiantly be a "NO" and I would counsel the Soldier immediately.

1SG (Join to see) - Thanks! I just flip flopped. Well, I may be outdated... But a few years back I went nuts on the Soldier (off duty - CWO) who had earrings on off post... I emailed/texted two CSMs before I said a word, and then I engaged... Come to find out I was wrong. That was circa 09-12... I reviewing 670-1 (The standard) it must have changed with the new rewrite...

No worries Sir; it happens to the best. Regs change so often it's a bit hard to stay on the cuff. Have a great day Sir!

1SG (Join to see) - It must have changed... as I went nuts on that officer, based on what I was told... and when I checked 670-1 I was wrong... I yelled about earrings and it was OK. I guess the new (2015) 670-1 was more specific WRT to males. I am OK (good) with that.

What in the actual fuck? I had a buddy wearing diamond studs driving on post get escorted to his commander and reprimanded on the spot. How could this possibly not be enforced???

my response to his BN CMD, I have read many regulations, perhaps I have overlooked the regulations you are referring to. So I do not make this mistake again would you please direct me. However if I had come across this individual and he was not in my COC I would just walk away, I would have been shaking my head, but walked away

BN Command.....not high enough in my opinion when it comes to personal appearance in a overseas country.

I can understand that, in fact I'm honestly wondering if there's any point in enforcing regulations with soldiers not directly under me. This has been very much more hassle than it's worth, as the saying goes: "Not my monkeys, not my problem".

I remember when Dennis Rodman first came out with his line of men's nail polish. My very first thought was wondering how long it would take for the Marine Corps to ban it.

Ah, that makes sense with what Dennis Rodman was doing around that time.
The 90s were super weird.

My Drill Sergeant just rolled over in his grave and he's still alive! I have no real issue if someone wants to dress.like the opposite sex on their own time and lets keep it classy. Remember though they may have trouble keeping others respect when gaining rank.

Earrings are a NO since 97.
The stars and striped front page literally said "Army sticks it to Soldiers"
Piercings of any kind cannot be worn on post even off duty.
