Had an interesting moment where in a soldier had me direct dial his BN CMD while correcting him about him wearing black lipstick, earrings, finger jewlery and ripped pants.

The CMD informed me I needed to read the regulations, which I have done so.

As far as I've read and know, there has been no update that allows male soldiers to wear this off-duty while on post.

I know, and I know that there is no regulation that says military personnel cannot listen to crap, I mean RAP music, but they do it anyway. I find that to be offensive.

You find freedom offensive? I don't like rap music but I will defend anyone's right to listen to what they want to listen to.

They should not be doing that in uniform. If they are not in uniform, though, and it is still physically hurting you, please see a doctor; there could be some other reason for your pain.

My initial answer was hell no but then again it wouldn't surprise me the way the military has changed the last few years.

1. Someone just informed me that earrings can now be worn my males off duty with the latest update to 670-1 (I didn't read it myself)
2. There is a possibility that the Soldier you encountered is transgender, which could be why he confidently said " call my command" and the command asked you to "read the regulation" They might be speaking of the transgender policy. if that is the case, I know from what we were thought in school (I am a clinical social worker) that Soldiers are allowed to wear certain getups that would usually be reserved for the opposite gender. He told us a story of how he had to approve PVT Manny to wear some subtle makeup and lipstick while he was in prison as a part of his transition into female.

Earrings are worn by both sexes, not just women. I know many transsexuals (male to female) that don't wear earrings, just as all women don't. I've worked with many transsexuals and as individuals they all have preferences.

LT, maybe you haven't been keeping up with the news but our Commander in Chief has ended all questions concerning transgender soldiers.......there will be none!

Never gave the legitimacy of it much thought, but I have seen it.

I once ran across a squad leader from my platoon at the Class 6 and he was sporting earrings, black jump boots, black lipstick, and...well, I can be charitable and say it was a kilt, but I'm not so sure that being so charitable means being correct. It was an ACU patterned, pleated...oh let's just pretend it was a kilt.

Cynthia Croft - There is a difference between a kilt and a skirt, and trust me, the guy of whom I speak was, to be honest, decidedly not wearing an ACU pattern kilt. I was just trying to be generous in my reference to his unusual choice in off-duty attire.

If he's off duty, why should anyone care what he wears? Not all men who wear skirts have "female" leanings, just as not all women who wear pants have "male" leanings. Right now our society is in flux. These are always difficult times.
