The last time I ran for time was a 5k race and I came in 4th. I was in third and got passed at the final 100 meters. The guy that passed me was in his 20s and I was 44. Not too bad for an old man. The time was 24 min and something like 26 seconds.
So, yes I think I could run a mile if that is all you wanted. My longest run is about 13 miles though. If you don't keep an eye on your fitness, nobody else will. Not once you are out of service. Just because you are out doesn't give you an excuse to lay around and get fat and be lazy. You may not be called back to serve, but you may still have to be able to stand up for yourself or your family.

Sir, I would be happy just to be able to walk 50 feet without massive pain, I would love to be able to stand for longer than 15 minutes with out the pain that follows, I would love to be able to set in one position for longer than 20 minutes with out having to always change positions due to pain, dont even get me going about stairs !!!!!

No. 16 years discharged, bilateral knee injuries and 2 major abdominal surgeries later. I wish I could.

Running one mile is no sweat. I usually try to do three miles at a minimum. That way I know the two mile APFT run will be no sweat. I like to run 5K races every chance I get.

I try to do 3 a day, it makes my PT test so much easier knowing I'm only going half the distance I usually do.

I can run 7 miles at 7:30 min/mile pace for fun and 9.5 miles with 40lbs ruck at 10min/mile pace for training.

I've trained my mind and body to go to 2 miles before wanting to quit. Dang APFT messes me up on wanting to go further. Lol.

Right now no i could not i have not ran since i have been out of the military. I am looking to start running once it warms up again since i dont have the money for a treadmill i dont want to run in the snow. I think the marines have it right wiht 3 miles. if you can run that in 15 minutes i think that would be considered in shape.
