The Coast Guard station in Grand Haven, Michigan, was evacuated today after a man called in saying he was going to blow it up with a bomb in his truck.

Just after 6 a.m., a man made a call "claiming he had a bomb in his truck and was going to blow up Station Grand Haven," the Coast Guard said in a news release.

As the station was being evacuated, a man drove a truck through the gate and broke into the building. The suspect, identified only as a 34-year-old man, was apprehended and taken into custody.

His truck was searched by Michigan State Police bomb technicians and no explosives were found.

No injuries were reported and the building has been deemed safe, the Coast Guard said.

The investigation is ongoing, the Director of Public Safety in Grand Haven said.

It was initially investigated as an act of domestic terrorism, but so far no link to terorism or any terrorist organization, officials said.

The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety was being assisted in the investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police, the Coast Guard, FBI, and Bureau of Alcohol/Tobacco/Firearms.

It's a dangerous world out there, glad no one was hurt. Sounds like we have at least one more lunatic off the street. Semper Patatus to our fine Grand Haven brethren, Semper Paratus.

We have had a few call in threats here in our local area. However, our most recent was a bomb threat to a local elementary school with a suspicious package inside a car in the parking lot. 30 minutes with many county 1st Responders, Midway PD, County Sheriffs, State Patrol....2 men robbed the Miday Bank. They didn't far after turning down a dead end dirt road and getting ran to ground in the woods.

On the more serious note: Let's hope that whenever these threats occur the proper actions continue to be taken as sooner or later (hopefully never), it's going to be real and failing to respond to bomb threat procedures is going to be a disaster.

Our office on Ft. Stewart (Emergency Management) works closely with installation organizations , and out 3 schools on postvisiting their locations and conducting Active Shooter Training and Response to Bomb Threat Procedures among other protective measures.

Little S.E. Georgia Town makes the news screens..(local news that is)
