Did you find permanent party to be, what you thought that it would be?

Which time? My initial was an overseas trip to Camp Zama Japan, and about all I can say is WOW! Honduras brought me into the same frame of mind, as did Panama and a few others. Heck Fort Campbell in 1994/5 was a shocker as the whole road was tore up outside and it was the deadliest stretch of road in America back then.

Sounds pretty scary to me; CW5 Sam R. Baker. But I am so glad that you had great experiences in Japan, etc.

AS for how they were, expectations, well as a PVT, it was quite scary until I was taken under the wing of a SPC and given a few Michelob beers before my first ever PT test. I ended up being waken late for the test as I was a no-show, I ended up leaving part of my innards on the field that morning. Needless to say I did not start off very well with my platoon sergeant, but by the time I finished that tour, I had made SGT and was on may way. Every tour builds the butterflies a little, even after 28 years, but they eventually go away.

What is Permanent Party. Is that Army Speak for Lifer? If so, No, I could never have imagined my Adventures after 21 years.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel, Permanent Party, for those of us who weren't in combat, (I served during the Cold War. My "Permanent Party" was in Germany) came after AIT.

And, KUDOS to you, PO1 William "Chip" Nagel, for being bold enough to ask that question.

Sure did but to my advantage I already had friends in the Army while I was in Highschool and I use to hang out at their barracks and go out to parties with them all the time. They told me all kinds of stories about Army life. Also, my father served 26 years and he gave me the low down too.
