Update...it seems the French tried to get this passed, but it was a no go. Thanks to LTC Stephen Ford for the update.
WOW...I first saw this on MSNBC...but because I don't like this station, I did a search and found a dozen sights with the article. How is it possible there are so many different articles about it....well alrighty then...thanks for the update.

BLUF: The French government nixed the concept
"Steve, Segolene Royale, the environment minister recently tried to introduce a law against wasting food. This failed for constitutional reasons, but she is working with the food distribution groups to find a way of preventing this waste on a voluntary basis. Many stores in the USA are told not to do it, but many Store Managers keep it quiet and do it anyway. Just have to keep it on the down low. I figure if I ever get fired for doing it, God will provide me an alternative work place.

No company or person should throw out edible food. We have so many hungry people in our country, and giving it to them should be the only outcome.

Sgt Kelli Mays We have always been a wasteful country and even worse these days because of the liability. Some would like to do good but if anything goes wrong the responsibility falls back on them.
