What do you think. Do we need a CW6? I do not think so. Also I think the air force wants warrant officers back in their force structure

There is already a CW6 rank, just not activated. Google it. It looks just like CW5 but with two lines... I think the ARSTAF CWO should be a CW6...

No need for a CW6. Any position needed could be filled by a CW5. Air Force had a Rand study completed last year which said Warrants were not needed but it sounded like the conclusion was drawn without looking at the real issues. I never put much faith in the Rand studies.

Then why do I asked all the time by air force e6/e7 types how do become a army warrant. The air force just does not want to pay.

Specifically Master SGT Mel Crandall. Air Force. Worked for JHQ Brunssum in the Netherlands. He was security
He wanted to be a army warrant. I told him his only option was to be army CID. I said you can try but the army is not giving up one of those slots to an air force person
That's like the movie the Generals Daughter. With Travolta.

Don't see a need for WO6. I think the AF needs the warrents back. The officers don't want to fly the drones and they don't really want the enlisted doing it either.

Nope, they are looking at cutting down the number of CW5's.

Good. I turned down 5. Made more money being a GS 12 and cw4. Plus the majority of cw5's I knew were ate up. Except for cw5 Les Craig and some of the aviators I knew. Never mess with the safety officer major.

I'm not convinced that CW5s have a point, much less a CW6.
Not trying to start a fight here, just pointing out that the Army got by just fine without CW5s until not that long ago.

Exactly. It was the aviation sector that pushed for it. Give them some incentive. High school to flight school.

I don't see any point in adding another level to Warrant Officers, it existed for years W1 to W4 until more recently the grade of W5 was added. I had met a few Air Force Warrant Officers back in the day and even had one in our unit, the 351st Combat Defense Squadron, (SAC) at Whiteman AFB, MO in the 1966-67 time frame. He was a CWO (W4) Homer R. Gunn and very well respected with a great deal of experience over a long period of time in the Air Police.

When I entered the Air Force back in 1978, they were getting rid of all of their Warrant Officers because they didn't have anything for them to do. I can't imagine why they would want them back today. Nothing is different now!

That is because they reduced the warrants to where there were only a few left. They did that for financial reasons. To save money. Why? The 5000 dollar toilet seat was killing their budget.

There was a pretty mature RP discussion on the use and utility of Command Chief Warrant Officers which also spawned the conversation about CW6 at the Chief of Staff of the Army Level...of course the RP Search engine is useless in finding this.

This would be the test case for CW6 https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-the-appointment-of-the-2nd-army-staff-senior-warrant-officer-a-progressive-talent-management-move-or-a-setback

CW4 Craig Urban - the point being that the ARSTAF is now leveraging a Senior Warrant Officer. This would be about the only CW6 billet I could imagine. I think it would Be a struggle to spontaneously speak about every Warrant career field, however he/she could leverage the senior warrant in each branch/career field to either fill him in or make a command performance with the CSA.

1SG John Millan - the SMA actually makes more than a regular E9 due to a special nominative pay. So instead of paying the CW5 a similar pay, just make it CW6. The four star to my knowledge doesn't draw a different pay. The idea is that they have official functions where they must pay above and beyond.

The CSA has a special indentification badge and colors in addition to the four star flag and the GO special issue sidearm. THe SMA has a special branch and rank identification. So the Senior Warrant Officer of the Army could be appointed (not promoted) to CW6. The precedence is there.

I was originally against a Command Warrant Officer of the Army, but if they are going to do it, they may as well do it right and not
