Sgt Tom Cunnally There is always a role for diplomacy in the relations between relations. PRESIDENT Obama is correct in that assumption.

MCPO Roger Collins - I think he may not want the Iran Deal as his legacy because he knows it is very fragile and could fall apart based on the Iranian Hard Liners and Supreme Leader who is scary

Sgt Tom Cunnally - It will be his legacy just l Obamacare is. We will see how the Historians' view his actions at some point in the future. I just hope the Israelis are around to read them.

You haven't quoted him to that effect - that he wants normal relations with Iran.
The treaty recently signed with Iran -is- historic.
Some points:
1. It wasn't done on Hillary Clinton's watch as SecState. As SecState she accomplished almost nothing.
2. Someone was saying that the Senate makes treaties. I don't think this is a treaty. It is effectively an executive agreement. A succeeding president doesn't have to honor it.
3. The Iranians must figure that a follow on president will honor the agreement -- that is to say a Democratic president.
4. No Republican can win a national election.
That said, did you see what the state of Alabama is doing?
"State announces 31 driver license offices will close, including 2 in north Alabama"

Coupled with laws requiring photo ID's to vote, this will make it much more difficult to register to vote.
This tends to support my number 4 above.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has announced its plans to close 31 driver license offices due to a significant loss in funds in the new state budget. The closures are ...

MAJ (Join to see) There is nothing wrong with diplomatically isolating them. When they are ready to be adults and act like adults they can come knocking. Until them we have no business dealing with these radicals.

SGT William Howell It just doesn't work. And makes war more likely.
As a Cold War Soviet analyst, there were many times that without diplomatic connections we would have ended up in war with the USSR.

Iran does not have the capabilities of the old Soviet Union, but give them enough money and the go ahead to process nuclear material and they will be a true threat to the US. They are not capable of waging war on the US other than meddling in our ability to stabilize the Middle East. We need to insure that they cannot become a nuclear power and that means continuing sanctions until they can act like something other than a bunch of religious nuts talking a stand to wipe out other countries.

No, because they are unwilling to engage in normal relations with us. we are the enemy to them and until that changes there can be no normalization.

President Hassan Rouhani addressed this in his speech before the UN Assembly but I could not understand what he was talking about.. He claims he wants better relations with the West with a big smile on his face but his boss Khomeini told him to wipe away that smile .. I think Khomeini calls all the shots and Rouhani is just a puppet on a string being pulled by the Hard Liners who really rule Iran.. They will never forgive us for letting the Shah receive treatment for cancer just before our embassy was seized in Tehran.. But Obama to his credit thinks we can have a relationship with Tehran.. I think Kerry has been giving it his best shot...

Sgt Tom Cunnally - I disagree with with the assessment on us being able to have a relationship with Iran. No amount of wishful thinking can change the facts on the ground that as you pointed out the hardliners do not want to change. I wish the situation was different but it is not.

The link doesn't suggest that President Obama expects 'normal' relations with Iran or even wants them.

Capt Walter Miller - Probably will never happen if the Iranian Supreme Leader says "NO".....which is likely to happen as you know

Ummm..... Sgt Cunnally, if you had read the article -you- published, you would know that no one is suggesting that we will have 'normal relations with Iran any time in the foreseeable future.

Capt Walter Miller Obama has said. " A constructive relationship with Iran could be a byproduct of the deal to limit its nuclear program, but it won’t happen immediately. If at all & etc"

I don't know where Obama is coming from telling us the Iran Deal could lead to relations with Iran. The Iranian Hard Liners and Supreme Leader probably were rolling on their prayer carpets over that one..

Capt Walter Miller -
OAK BLUFFS, Mass. — President Barack Obama says a constructive relationship with Iran could be a byproduct of the deal to limit its nuclear program, but it won’t happen immediately. If at all.
Obama told CNN in an interview airing Sunday that Iran’s “nuclear problem” must be dealt with first. He said the agreement reached last month by the U.S. and five other world powers to remove crippling economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program achieves that goal “better than any alternative.”
Republican lawmakers largely disagree with the president’s assessment that the deal blocks Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon, as do some of Obama’s own Democrats.

WASHINGTON – More than 35 years since the American embassy in Tehran was besieged, US President Barack Obama has signaled that a renewed US presence in Iran is possible – should Iran choose to permanently curb its nuclear ambitions.
“I never say never, but I think these things have to go in steps,” Obama said of the possibility, in an interview with National Public Radio. The president was responding to a question on Iran following his decision to open an embassy in Havana, Cuba, after 50 years of frozen relations.

Drop the wording games, my answer is No. just because I believe in their words ... it is as simple as it is. They are calling for our death.

History has proven that we cannot because a relationship requires full trust. Anyone or any country that shouts on the streets death to America is not someone we need to have a relationship with; albeit, keeping your friends close and your enemies closer does produce a valid truth. We should not go blindly into this and be prepared to act quickly and decisively should they go the wrong direction. Winston Churchhill said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." I see no value in a relationship with these hate mongers but we need to be right on their ass to make sure they are not attempting to undermine our great country or kill our people.

The only relations we should have with IRAN is to bomb them back into the Ice Age. Tell me why not. Russia cannot defeat the U.S. in an all out war, even with the 150,000 draftees they picked up this week. Wonder how high the desertion rate is already? Iran doesn't have any nuclear capability yet but how long before Putin makes a gift of several warheads. Israel has a great "Iron Shield", I'm not worried about them. And Iran could never get a nuclear missile all the way to the U.S. I believe that Russia could, and maybe they will. It will start in the Mideast but come home quickly.

As Israelis have the proverb
, "Keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer", I wholly believe that the those who are possible threats must be kept close to have knowledge and influence ( to include force), that enables us to know what they are thinking for possible issues (which is the basis of all intelligence threats) to be prepared to respond with the level of force.
