Well Sir, that is up to interpretation. I have a B.A. in religion from the University of Southern Mississippi, and my personal research indicates that Revelations was a very apocalyptic analogy for the Roman Empire. It wasn't intended for literal interpretation thousands of years later, although it is just about every time elections roll around. The article that you posted doesn't seem to mention religion, but I think any apocalyptic-minded religious leader will see signs anywhere and everywhere.

SSgt Boyd Welch - I would slightly disagree. The secularism that America has fully embraced over the years is not as prominent in other countries. There are many things that people feel they can compromise on, like economics or politics. But if a person is truly religious, that is something that they feel they cannot compromise on because the consequences are more severe than anything in this world. That is what has made religiously-based wars like the Crusades so dangerous. I will agree that a clash of civilizations is probably inevitable, but I believe it will be aggravated if religious issues are thrown in to the mix.

In Europe, secularism has grown at least since the '70's. Nudity and embrace of the effeminate was obvious in television and in popular society during my years in Britain and other parts of Europe. Not a judgment on my part but rather an observation. Destroy/erode the core/common values, take away the sense of community, take away the sense of achievement and foster hopelessness. Great tools for conquest. Europe embarked on that road, (unwittingly maybe) but now they are being invaded and conquered. Clash of starkly different civilizations.

SPC (Join to see) - said, "The secularism that America has fully embraced over the years is not as prominent in other countries."

I would say that most westernized, industrialized countries are way more secular than USA. The norm in USA is Christian, the norm in Scandinavia is Agnostic/Atheism. Just a FYI, because as secular as USA is - it still quite conservative in its spiritual development.

SGT (Join to see) - That is fair. I still stand by that America is more secular than the majority of other countries, but it would be accurate to say that we are not the most secular. And while you are absolutely right about Scandinavian countries not being overly religious, I think you will find even more countries who have incorporated religion into their society more heavily than America or some of the other more industrialized countries.

I have no doubt that we are headed towards another major war. We always are and always will be as long as there enough people left to fight one. People have been fighting and killing each other since the beginning and will continue to do so as long as there are two or more people left on the planet. People are animals.

Edgar Rice Burroughs (author of the Tarzan books) showed animals to be more noble that humans since they fought only for food, self defense and mates. I agree. If we have a major societal collapse in America where food and water supplies are disabled, the "thin veneer of civilization" will be lost quickly. Katrina proved that..

Do you agree with the religious leaders who are professing that we are headed to WWIII (fulfilling a biblical prophesy)?

The end of the world has been repeatedly predicted--falsely, up 'til at least today--since day one. I'm not losing any sleep because some random dude somewhere decided for himself exactly what the "signs" (whatever they are) MUST mean and that the end is nigh.

The end of the world will be like the lottery; assuming mankind is still around, whoever just so happens to guess it right on the day it occurs wins...or loses along with the rest of us, but hey, congratulations on finally getting it right!

We don'tknow when the " second coming" will be and to infer we do is blasphemous. World wars maybe, but war is not the second coming. Just my opinion.

It's hard to deny the prophecies of Revelations. One must be a very fundamental believer in the Bible, as a whole, however, for that occur. My Dad was a minister for sixty-two years before he passed on five years ago. He tried to slip a few last sermons to me in his last days!!! He was a devout believer. I wish I had his faith and belief system. Viet Nam and thirty years of police work has left me with serious questions about all things Biblical. Is it the last days? No one knows. I will say that if the flashpoint that is the Mideast and Asian Muslim world and the social depravity that consumes the United States are any indicators, our Goose Is Seriously Cooked!!

SCPO (Join to see) - The issues isn't proof. The issue is interpretation. If you want to find "signs" of the end of the world, you are going to find them. Why? Because of interpretation. You can interpret anything to be a sign of impending doom. Doesn't mean it really is though.

LTC Paul Labrador - Me'thinks we are not on the same sheet of music. I agree with most of your points. I sorta jumped to a more far-reaching issue.

SCPO (Join to see) - You're never going to find "proof" for something that is a matter of faith to begin with. That is why faith is considered "holy" because you believe without proof. Again, the issue with apocalypse predictions is that they rely neither on faith nor proof, but arbitrary interpretation of "signs" (which themselves are arbitrary) to prove a viewpoint.

As are the various interpretations of the Bible dependent upon one's specific religious faith which, in turn, are entirely dependent upon one's cultural, economic, social background which, in turn, determine one's interpretations of the Bible...Ad Nauseum!!! It's a wildly chaotic circle of never-ending revolutions. I got off that ride in 1998.

I'm sure you will agree that the Battle Space now includes Outer Space and Cyber Space.
China is targeting the Pentagon's Computers and the US Satellites. China is a super power, which is virtually attacking us on the Fringe. Does this make sense?

At a meeting in December 2015, NATO foreign ministers formally invited Montenegro to join. This enraged Russia, between that and the Ukraine, don't you think we are on the brink of conflict with Russian. Not to mention the recent close calls of Russian planes near our destroyers.

For most of "we" fundamentalist Christians, there is a series of future, apocalyptic events that are described throughout the scripture...most notably Revelations, though they are alluded to in the Gospels and even the Old Testament. Since these were put on paper, around 96AD, various world events have been "proclaimed" to be heralding the "end times". However, a careful study of these texts details the fact that a few, unique circumstances have yet to be realized. First, there is the appearance of a leader so powerful, popular, and deceptive...that he manages to "unify" humanity in rebellion against God, and persecution of the faithful. The Caesars, Napoleon, Hitler...even current leaders...have all been listed as "suspects". This "Antichrist" is assisted by the "Beast"-the mark of which is said to be "required" in either the forehead or hand, as a sign of loyalty towards, and entitlement to the society they will usher in. Again, printed currency, credit cards, even the Internet, have all been suspected of being the "Beast". This "new" order of world government is prophesied to lead a horrific persecution of anyone refusing to denounce their faith and follow the Antichrist/Beast, which ultimately leads to the "rapture",i.e. removal of the faithful... and all out war between the combined forces of humanity allied against God and Heaven. Some scholars cite prophecy of battles between allied nations against Israel, and other earthly fighting leading up to "Armageddon"- the climax. In between, are prophecies that allude to the "star Wormwood" falling into the sea and killing a third of all living things (asteroid?)...diseases, war, famine...the ubiquitous "Four Horsemen" riding rampant...basically, earth and nature competing with mankind's own cruelty for body count. In the end, the forces of evil are defeated, and Christ sets up a kingdom on earth spanning one thousand years. What happens next is often debated, but Revelations describes a final judgement followed by an eternity of presence with God, or alternatively, damnation. While some Christians see only metaphor, and some believe these events are past...and we are in the last days of that one thousand year reign of Christ...many, myself included, believe these prophecies describe events yet to come.
