From "Rasmussen Reports"

58% Think There's A War on Police in America Today

With officers murdered in Texas and Illinois in just the last few days, most voters now believe the police are under attack in America and blame politicians critical of the cops for fanning the flames.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 58% of Likely U.S. Voters think there is a war on police in America today. Just 27% disagree, while 15% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Sixty percent (60%) believe comments critical of the police by some politicians make it more dangerous for police officers to do their jobs. Only 18% think those comments improve the quality of the police’s performance. Thirteen percent (13%) say the politicians’ comments have no impact.

While there is usually a wide racial difference of opinion on questions related to the police, most black voters (54%) agree with the majority of white (60%) and other minority voters (56%) that there is a war on police underway.

EDITORIAL COMMENT:- It's about time that society started dealing with the perception because what people believe has more to do with what they do than reality does when the two conflict.

Unfortunately yes. I think the opposition is significantly smaller than people think, but it exists. To a certain extent it always has. Criminal elements have specifically targeted police essentially forever. The problem now is that they are gaining support through the guise of political movement from more "normal" people who misunderstand the situation.

LCDR (Join to see) - Commander; Although you and COL Jean (John) F. B. are on the same side of the line, I think that you assessment is closer to the actual situation.

There has always been a "war" on police being conducted by SOME element of society. The real issue is how widespread is that element and does that element have any REAL (read as "provable, if only we had the data") issues to justify (in the legal sense) its position.

On the other hand, if everyone stopped treating the police as if the police were their enemy, the situation would likely defuse itself rather rapidly (provided that the police reciprocated).

[NOTE - The odds on either of the two conditions above being fulfilled are poor and the odds on them both being fulfilled are abysmal.]

COL Ted Mc Sir I agree. Unfortunately as you mention it is a low probability of people stopping viewing police as the enemy. It is a convenient blame to place, and seems to be perpetual to some degree.

LCDR (Join to see) - While I agree there has always been an element of society that has waged a war on the police, it has paled in comparison with what is now going on. The open defiance and open calls for murdering police officers is a relatively new phenomenon; something that might have existed to a lesser extent before and certainly less out in the open and, in many way, embraced by the liberal media and the current Administration.

I do not think it is a passing thing. If something is not done about it now, it will continue to grow and become the insurgency that will spark a race war.

COL Jean (John) F. B. Sir I agree this is a very amplified phenomenon, but I also think it is much more covered. I don't mean to say that the media didn't report on it before, I mean to say that I think the media is actually increasing the "cause" of those waging the war.

COL Ted Mc - Absolutely and without question. This "war on police" has been spurred on by the Obama Administration and its efforts to create race warfare. Their support of the idiots in Ferguson, Baltimore, and other racially-charged incidents fueled the fire that is now burning. Obama's and the DOJ's refusal to take any positive measures to stop the nonsense make them culpable.

This lawlessness is the change that Obama promised...

You must be smoking pot, colonel (don't know which state you live in). Accusing POTUS and DOJ (without a shred of evidence) of something that exist only in your head? There is no war, the Police just found themselves in a spotlight with everyone watching their moves, kinda role reversal. BTW, by the "idiots in Fergusson" you meant the "commando wannabes" armed for WW III, right? Or is it a teenager with the knife shot 16 times, 14 after already on the ground and not moving?

CW4 (Join to see) - You are certainly entitled to your opinion, regardless how misguided it might be. I really do try to see things from the point of view of people like you, but try as I might, I just can't seem to get my head that far up my ass.

Yes, there is organized opposition to the police in this country. It was instigated by the POTUS and the AG always vocally supporting perps over law enforcement. Combine that with the national media not only supporting this narrative, but actually tailoring their reportage to fit the template. Now you have this #blacklivesmatter bunch egging each other on over social media and cops are getting blindsided. If this lot thinks cops were bad before, wait till they start getting nervous and paranoid. Or perhaps we're due for a "blue flu"epidemic. If minority communities hate the cops so much, then let 'em police their owm communities while the "pigs" enjoy some well-deserved vacation time.
