Who writes and directs commercials for the Army? If it is the same group that makes decisions on uniforms someone needs to be fired.

SGT Brian Watkins, I think that every branch of service (excepting the USCG) has better commercials than the Army, especially the USMC. The Marine commercials are about being Marines. Many times, the Army commercials are about being trained to be something else. The likelihood is that the USCG also has better recruiting commercials than the Army; I just haven't seen one lately on which to pass judgment!
I also agree that the Army uniform decision making process is in the dumper.

I didn't think you were critical in any way; the budget for ads when I was in (retired 94) was so small there were NO television ads that I can remember. Around the nineties the CG strongarmed (?) their way into the pooled DoD ads as a fifth participant, but I understand the DoD was less than eager to have them. The CG only ads are relatively new, and since they throw nickels around like manhole covers, I can't believe they (CG) are spending money. They are just cheaper than dirt. And their budget situation sometimes drives that.

The comment You make about being trained to be something else is true, not quite they way to sell anyone on a career. I agree, the Marines make commercials that inspire and it seems that is what they should do.

Then there was the mother a few years ago with a lawsuit because her son couldn't attend college at night because he was deployed. He joined to get money for college, I believe Army, if that was the case he should have joined the AF, he didn’t do his homework. The old Navy commercials about join the Navy and see the world mislead into thinking it’s all a Med Cruise. The Marines are running into a fight, that’s the reality of some military service, they don’t hide that fact.

Years ago a mother sued the Army for misrepresentation, said her son joined so he could start college classes at night for free and save money once out. Being deployed put a huge crimp in half of that plan. Back when they were advertising the advantage of using the military for college.

No, SGT Brian Watkins! How about the "Hey First Sergeant, good morning" (Be all that you can be!) ad? I used to say that "we do more before 9:00 am than most people do all day long" all the time, and that came from the ad.

I searched for that ad and could not find it, except as part of this montage. And in my searching, I learned that people made fun of that ad. I still liked it. Doesn't matter what others may think.

I say that all the time as well, often in satire after a long morning of hurry up and wait.

I think the "Army of One" commercial was totally horrible. Hey guys, we run around with our dog tags hanging out all the time, because fuck standards... it's the Army! lol

"Be all that you can be" was the best slogan the Army ever had. Pick something good and stick to it. Something like "The Few, the Proud."

On second thought "Army Strong" is pretty good, stick with that and play it up.
