If you pass your ncoes after the eps board meets do you have to wait until the board meets again to get pinned for your next promotion? The board meets in March. Say you pass your ncoes in September of that same year. Do you get pinned after completion of that school or do you have to wait until March of the next year? (Considering all other prerequisites are met)

LTC (Join to see) - Not sure if this post is in regards to reserve or AD, but I know I was never called in front of a formation. In the reserves I was transferred out of the current unit and expected to show up to my new unit the next month as an E5.

SGT (Join to see) - I've always been a reservist. Promotion in between assignments would suggest to show up at the new unit wearing the new rank (so long as you have orders for it).

SGT (Join to see), in those circumstances, you are correct. I was in the IRR when I was promoted to captain. I returned to the active reserve in a TPU sometime thereafter. I just walked in with railroad tracks because there was no one in the IRR that cared, and the battalion commander was expecting a captain, not a first lieutenant!

SGT (Join to see) - In those cases, you should have been pinned by your losing commander, then given you promotion and transfer orders at the same time.

I'm not saying I'm going to pin myself and go around the c.o.c. That's basically a big F U to the people that helped get me there. I was just looking for input on the timeline from this situation. I believe everyone has helped clarify. Thanks to everyone.

As others have said, you need Orders that actually state you are promoted before you can wear them. Then there is usually a promotion ceremony (company formation) where the orders are published (read aloud) and you are then "officially pinned" by someone in your Chain of Command. More importantly, ensure you are getting paid at your new grade (check the effective date on the orders).

Bro, it should be after School-Completion and no Physical-Profile is on hand currently I believe. Unless there's some Red-Tape that needs to be cut.

I've been PV2 E-2 to SSG E-6 and getting ready to pin on MAJ O-4. Except for three promotions: PFC, SPC, and SSG, never had any type formal pin on by commander. Just took orders to personnel, finance, and ID card.

Technically no, but I would highly discourage anyone from doing it, especially from E4-E5

You'll get pinned by your unit. It's not an automatic promotion, so you'll only get that pay when your unit officially promotes you.

When I wwas in meeting the requirements was the easy part. Waiting for the cutoff score to drop from 99 to to get the promotion.

What is your rush? Seriously, wait, you want that ceremony, if we just pinned it ourselves, we'd either be militia or something POG reserve unit

EPS boards are for the guard not active duty. It's a little different in the guard and I came from active duty. I'm just trying to learn this system.

According to the new regulations, when you pass BLC, and considering you've done everything required by the guard (SSD1, time in grade/service) and your unit, you are promotable. In fact, you can be promoted before you even go to BLC as long as you complete the school within 120 days of your promotion, although no one knows that. Sometimes your unit will promote you on paper and it will be in your AKO, but they will not physically pin you until they are ready. It's weird I know, but it happens. Bottom line is, board or no board, they'll promote you when there's a slot for E-5. Your best bet is to choose "statewide" on your eps paperwork that you fill out every FY. Lol
