1989 Guilford County Fire Marshal's Office
Fire Educator
Summer uniform had polyester white shirt open collar, but it was cold as heck inside so I had on the nylon windbreaker they issued us (the official size and weight badge is under the jacket, really!). This was a closet that had been turned into my office, with just enough room to open the door walk in and sit at the desk. I had one file cabinet and a bookcase behind my desk. I had the job for 8 years and 3 months before it was lost to budget cuts.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - You are welcome. Thanks for letting The Fire Lady participate. I hope the humor was appropriate. This in no way was intended to pretend that I ever wore a military uniform or that I think firefighters are heroes (I know I'll get in trouble for that, but I have opinions).

Deborah Gregson - No worries Deborah, but I do think that all of our first responders are heroes in their own right. Most of them have served or are serving in the military (Air and Army National Guard, or one of the Reserve Service Branches). Just my two cents!

I gave all my military photographs to one of my children. Although I was only on active duty 3 years and in the reserves 7 years the military was a big part of my life and I loved it. I did not talk much about my tour in Vietnam until I wrote a book about some of my adventures for my children and included a lot about my military career. Some of you may find it very entertaining. Just posting some pics I just scanned in COL Mikel J. Burroughs. Some pics are at AIT at Fort Jackson in 1970 and the others are at Camp Saint Barbara, Korea, also 1970. I was 17 at the time, skinny and couldn't pose for a picture, still cant! LOL

SFC William Farrell Bill I'm really havbing problems with the tagging on RallyPoint, so fortunately I had a post copied where your address was and I was able to tag you this morning. Great photos - thanks for you service. I see Cynthia Croft tried to tag yo as well and was unable to do so. I've received many complaints on the tagging this morning I'm hoping that Rallypoint can get this fixed sometime soon. I can't even tag Carlos Madden on this issue, but I had his address from another post that I saved, so he can see the frustration we are going through over the last two days. SSG Carlos Madden we need this fixed as quickly as possible - email notifications are backing up because we can't respond with a TAG on the individuals name!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - Yes Mikel, I had meant to write to Carlos last night regarding the tagging issue but had a long day and wound up going to bed. I thought perhaps it might have been a browser issue and tried a different computer, same results. Thanks Mikel, hope you are enjoying Colorado!

Cynthia Croft - Yes Cynthia, thank you. Was 17 in all those pictures. I left Korea and went to Vietnam when I turned 18. Just like the song, Those Were the Days my Friend!

Already posted my first picture, but I wanted to post one of the last pictures. It's one of my favorites. In case I am not recognizable, I'm in the middle of the group.

First picture in uniform from OSUT at Ft Benning. Aug 1982. We were not happy campers this day. A happier picture with Corporal stripes, at home on leave from Ft Hood, December 83.
