COL Mikel J. Burroughs - Thanx Col but I should add that most of the guys in my company were glad to see me leave Camp Geiger NC and they had a "Going Away" party for me two days after I left. They all thought I was worst than their DIs because I really pushed them when they were running,doing pushups, setups or other exercises..

I was stationed at Geiger, with 3/8, 85 to 88 and then 3/6, 89 to 91, when 6th Marines took 8th Marines place there.

SFC Frank Burns - I was stationed at Geiger from 01/02/1955 - 09/27/1956.. Force Troops FMF Atlantic which included 155 Howitzer, 1st ANGLICO, 1st Recon, & 1st RAD, & 1st Headquarters ......I was a Radio Operator (2536) in 1st RAD.

This was at my son's "Turning Blue" ceremony a couple months ago; a little over 5 years after retirement. He INSISTED I wear my uniform (despite the significant alterations that had to be made. I didn't realize that uniforms actually shrink if left on the hanger too long :) Brought back a LOT of memories from 30 years ago when I stood there. The pic was taken in the AMAZING infantry museum they have built down there.

This is the last known photo of my dad in uniform. He was soooo mad that I was fussing so much over it but I can't recall all that many times seeing him in it so I cornered him in the bathroom as he rolled his eyes and took a pic! Miss him so much!

PO2 Kayla Modschiedler - Was your grandma also in the military? We had a candle light vigil for the Marines who were killed in Chattanooga Tennessee last summer & I met some ladies who served in the military during WWII and they were just a delight to chat with.

No she was a missionary in South America though during the 40s and 50s. Kinda like military service my Mom never had any proper shoes until she was 13 and came to the US
