SGM (Join to see), I definitely remember the draft, but I'm just a little too young to have had a number. The draft was all over the news, along with Vietnam, when I was growing up. (Also, draft dodgers, draft card burning, fleeing the draft by traveling/moving to Canada ... just a couple of things the draft reminds me of.)

I had a high number and would not have been drafted in 1972-75. I remember when my roommate in College was drafted! I was also in ROTC but he was not.

Do you remember the draft? Did you have a draft number?

I do not know why I was not drafted. I turned 18 and registered in 1960. I enlisted in 1964.

The draft was sure in full use in `1966 but enlisted in the Air Force at age 18 one month after I graduated from High School.

Drafted in June, 1965, and I will never forget my Service Number. Don't know about the "draft number."

Yep. I enlisted in the Army National Guard on my 18th Birthday in 1969. Knowing I would get a draft notice. After almost a year on either Riot Duty, College riots, National Teamsters Strike , Race Riots, I went Active Duty. I told the First Sergeant I didn't join the Army to point weapons at Americans. They sent me to Germany...and guess what, I got Riot Duty again. Sigh.

I was drafted in 1967 before there were numbers. People told me to join the reserves or guard or I would go to Vietnam. I opted for shortest commitment which was two years as draftee. MOS was 11bravo and Vietnam was my assignment.
Cut time to 21 months with early out to go to college. Would do it again.
