Considering all the illegal immigrants in this country, do you think they should be able to use welfare or public assistance considering they aren't citizens and that many working Americans are denied welfare or public assistance.

No freakin way, if you want to freeload off of a group of tax payers, do so in your own country. Let's adopt the Mexican system, where you can't come here unless you make at least $2000 per month.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - All that racism and you still stay there. Do you mind if I check your profile and sent a copy to your local newspaper, just in case they don't realize all this racism is going on and want to report it to the DOJ.

You want to talk about freeloaders? The majority of people on welfare are white. That is a fact. Whites account for over half of the population and I'm not talking about the employed. Read more.

MSG Steve Wiersgalla - I'm all for them to read and learn the Constitution, but hell, even some Americans don't know it or have even read it for that matter. Being born in Mexico, I became a citizen not because I had to, but because I want it to. It pained the living crap out of me when I saw soldiers who were born here running inside so they wouldn't have to salute the flag at revile. Being an American to me is an honor, wish more natural born Americans saw it that way too.

SGT (Join to see) - They do SGT Vega, they too see it as an honor even if they don't know it..... haha. Part of the lessons to learn are that when you fight for America your fighting for the idiots too. Running from revile is sometimes just an indication of laziness. Being spoiled or lazy is sometimes an American pass time... :)

We have deaf politicians worried about building their voting bloc and growing their personal wealth along the way, that's why it's so hard to understand the real meaning of illegal.

I join the chorus when I say absolutely not. When my family fell on hard times we resorted to food stamps to get by. You can never fully see the focus of the problem until you go into a government office to get assistance and you are the only white people in the building who speak English as a first language.

How do you know their immigration status just by their language? I grew up with a lot of people whose parents legally immigrated or were legal residents but could barely speak English. US citizens don't have a language requirement and there's a hospital in Brooklyn that many day laborers go to on Friday evenings because that's when they don't have any work, but they aren't illegal. Many are born American citizens from PR.

I'm also bothered that race was even made an issue here. There are tons of illegal immigrants who are white coming in from Eastern Europe. It just doesn't get as much press attention. Just saying, don't make assumptions by someone's language or supposed race.

Do you know much about the U.S. citizenship test? My wife is now a U.S. citizen that was born in Ukraine. She never was an illegal alien but you don't pass the U.S. citizenship test without passing the written and verbal test in English. Don't pass off that nonsense about "How about the illegals from Europe" and other such nonsense putting a racial element in there. Illegals, regardless of race are ILLEGALS. I've also seen so many posts that the majority of illegals are from overstays of visas. That's only a changing statistic. What's NOT reported is that the VAST majority of overstays of visitor visas are only temporary and many of only days but they're still reported as being in the U.S. illegally. They're not intentional and not a planned permanent stay. Do you think someone here illegally is reporting that to U.S. Customs? Most of the overstays are errors by the traveler.

No, however any person who comes here through legal means and who is willing be an American should have every opportunity to succeed. If they are willing to work harder than a natural born citizen, they deserve to achieve success at a higher level. I know this sounds simplistic, but I believe this is the message we need to get across. We still welcome those who seek the American dream, but will vetted them all.

Why would you want all these residents to become voting citizens when our beloved government can squeeze taxes out of them without having to pay back a variety of benefits, welfare programs included?

Legal residents DO HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE on their visa. After every couple of years, they have to renew it.
There are no laws forcing them to become citizens because frankly, it benefits the country to have more residents than citizens.

A resident can get deported over a DUI, even if it was over a technicality (falling asleep in your car after drinking two beers without the keys in the ignition), a resident can be kicked out during a time of war, and residents don't get to leech off the government the way citizens do.

On the other hand, it's quite foolish for residents to remain as non-citizens.

First of all, Joe, they’re already Americans. It’s just trying to get them to obey U.S. law which is very difficult since liberal politicians defend them in order to rebuild a fractured voting bloc.

SFC William Adamek - Well then you wouldn't have your favorite stars making movies in Hollywood would you? Levity there. Many legal permanent residents don't want to give up their citizenship of their home countries but have to work fulltime in this country. You have to have permanent residency here to get a Social Security card to work or be a citizen. In some countries it keeps you from having to pay their large income taxes, even if you don't live there, if you're a permanent resident here you pay income taxes here and your income earned here counts as your taxes there, but not in all countries. Not all countries honor dual citizenship either. If you want to be a U.S. citizen, you'd have to give up your birth citizenship and yes....that means to return to visit relatives, you go through their visa process.

At the risk of sounding harsh. No, they shouldn't. Tax money allocated for those things should be for citizens. In my most humble of opinions they should be helped by the church and private organizations.

In a word, no. We should take care of our veterans, and seniors before illegals. It burns me up to go through a neighborhood, and see a Mercedes in the driveway, and three satellite dishes, on the roof of their shack. They say it's free, from the govt. Ugh! No way. American taxpayers pay for it! Like everything else.

There are plenty of citizens that shouldn't be allowed it so why let illegal immigrants have it...problem is many citizens that have these handouts just milk the system treating it as a luxury and an excuse as not to work...so no illegals definitely don't need to contribute to that problem
