You swore an oath to defend it the Constitution and its Preamble! Time to examine it.

How to “Form a more perfect union” “to establish justice” “to insure domestic tranquility” “promote general welfare”?


10 U.S.C. § 502 - U.S. Code - Unannotated Title 10. Armed
Forces § 502. Enlistment oath:  who may administer

(a) Enlistment oath. --Each person enlisting in an armed force shall take the following oath:
“I, _______, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;  that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;  and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.  So help me God.”


The U.S. Constitution: Preamble
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

I think Richard Dreyfuss has a good point of view on the Preamble.

The principles upon which this Republic was founded are constantly under attack. We would do well to examine the words closely and take them to heart rather than look at them as something we need to abridge out of convenience.

I think you are stretching things a bit, PO3 Aaron Hassay! In my view, I see no need to change the Constitution's Preamble at all... I love all it stands for and will continue to honor my enlistment oath I took back in May back in 1961...

I am not looking to change it. I am looking to read it understand its calling to constantly improve the society and government we live. I would say that there is no way to actually stay a unified improving society is to have something like we have which is a written Constitution Preamble, keep on reading it, and understanding it, and improving what it calls for improving. I think a healthy government is mostly a simple concept

1961! You must have some good stories!

My dad was 66-68 Army I found out!

Why? The Preamble was written by some smart guys, and gives a real good simple overview of the goal of American government and reasons to constantly improve it.
