Paul Ryan, who has expressed reluctance in backing Donald Trump for president, has offered to step aside as chairman at this summer's Republican convention if Trump asks him to. Do you think Trump will do so? Should he?

If you try to use logic, tradition, and predictability with Trump, you will loose. He marches to his own drum GOP be damned. Trump is for Trump. If you like him great. If you don't he'll destroy you on twitter and mainstream media. Note how many current politicians would not mention him in a bad light when directly asked of their opinions of him or his chances of becoming the GOP nominee?

Capt Seid Waddell - But Obama hasn't destroyed any political careers using twitter...yet. What happened to Rubio was vicious. Ted might not fare much better from this either.

SSG Warren Swan, he has destroyed the careers of many military leaders that disagreed with him. He didn't need twitter when he had executive power, the IRS, the Justice Dept., and the EPA to destroy his political opponents.

Capt Seid Waddell - but that is perfectly legal. McArthur was relieved because he thought he knew more than the President, and decided to run his gums in defiance. If you allow your ego and rank to make a debt like that, you deserve to be shuffled out the door. Regular Joes are getting the shaft for less. Some of those GO's did the exact same thing. McCrystal was crazy to allow his staff to bad mouth the President "off the record".....seriously? PAO 101...NOTHING IS OFF THE RECORD. With some not all of these GO's they allowed their rank to be confused with the Presidents actual authority. Their mistake.

SSG Warren Swan, it was legal with the military leaders, but not with the IRS, DoJ, or the EPA. The point is that Obama doesn't need to tweet to destroy his opponents.

I do not believe Trump will request Ryan to step aside. This would continue to shatter the Republican party in that the top ranked Republican in today's government would be scooted out.

Seems like a mute question to me. If the GOP is following Ryan, it's no longer the GOP

Paul Ryan is one of the few people left on the Hill that is not a total dirt bag. If Trump does it will be a shame. I am sure it will not hurt Ryan's ego one bit. He didn't want the position in the 1st place.

IMO Trump will not ask Ryan to step aside for the convention. He needs as many people on his side as he can get and asking Ryan to not be there would not be in his best interest.

I don't think Donald Trump should ask the third ranking elected officer of the US government SP5 Mark Kuzinski. The Speaker of the House of Representatives in just behind the VPOTUS of the USA if the POTUS and VPOTUS are eliminated for any reason.
Having the Speaker of the House of Representatives of your own party chair the conventions makes much more sense especially since if hasn't happened very often this century.

Paul Ryan should announce his bid as an Independent. The votes will be split enough that no candidate will have a majority of electoral votes. There would be a deadlock.

In the case of an Electoral College deadlock or if no candidate receives the majority of votes, a “contingent election” is held. The election of the President goes to the House of Representatives. Each state delegation casts one vote for one of the top three contenders to determine a winner.

With the current make-up on the House of Representatives, I think it would be a good bet that Ryan, as one of the top three contenders, would sneak in as the next President

Probably not. That would make the split permanent and hand the election to Hillary.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski I think it is all political still at this point. Each one is puffing up their chest, but Ryan had better get on board or he'll cause more divide in the GOP. Just my opinion! I think Ryan will be at the GOP Convention supporting Trump. I don't think Trump will ask him not to attend - they need to mend that fence and move forward!

I honestly think that the GOP has gotten what it deserves in Trump. All of his outlandish rhetoric (borderline hate-speech) is what the GOP base has been whispering for years.

The days of the GOP as the party of fiscal conservatives is over. RIP.
