Does anyone know if it is possible to access Enterprise e-mail without a CAC?

Unfortunately no. This is becoming a problem with the part time Service, in my opinion. Fewer Soldiers in this current generation actually use personal computers. While CAC readers exist for some tablets/notebooks, they were really expensive last time I checked (Like over $200).
I find it to be a monthly struggle with my unit, especially as a senior leader and especially as we get closer to training events. I am having to bring my personal laptop to work to monitor important things put out on the dot mils. Going to a reserve center or armory is not necessarily convenient; in less populated areas such centers tend to be farther away.
OK..Im off my soapbox

I've bought 2 CAC readers. One was $5 and the other $20. MilitarCAC.com helps with that.

SGT (Join to see) . That was what I was referring to when I was mentioning the CAC readers. I had looked into one about 5 years ago for my tablet and it was $350 and not all that reliable with the OS that was installed on the tablet. Perhaps things have caught up a bit with technology, but I have not really looked into it either. (my tablet had a bad day at a field exercise and since then, I have not replaced it, and don't have enough interest to look into this. I may later because I am curious)

There has to be a way. Recruiters and others access it from their phones or other such devices, don't they?

You can get a CAC card reader at most PX's for like $30. You might as well, it's extremely convenient to have one...

SSG, you're coming in late to the conversation. The SM doesn't have a CAC card. A card reader will do her no good. I appreciate the advice though.

Has to be done with a CAC. Whether at home or at your NG Center. The reasons your Soldier is having issues accessing is that her CAC is either expired or she entered her pin incorrectly one too many times and is locked out. I recommend that your troop contact AKO Help Desk first, in case it is just locked out. Otherwise she would need a new CAC issued.

I have definitely voiced my concern about this. I do not want to put all of the information on this situation out there but let's just say it is exactly that... Puzzling! I gave her some POC's to have her questions answered but not sure where exactly she stands with that. I appreciate your advice, SSG.

SSG (Join to see) - I'd suggest asking the helpdesk to auto-forward all such email to another email to which the SM currently has access.

SSG (Join to see) I do not believe so. I tried when my CAC was locked and I could get into AKO but not on the Enterprise e-mail.

SSG, I appreciate the mentorship. I was never in charge of this soldier but she comes to me with questions because I am able to get answers for her. Unfortunately, in this particular situation, all I am able to do is offer her the advice to have the POC re-send everything to a civilian e-mail and hope they didn't leave anything out. I will definitely stay on top of this should I ever become an NCO (may go through Flight School instead) in the future.

SSG (Join to see) - two options would be have the originator resend the files or have them go to the location of the actual files if possible.

Roger that, Sir. I was hoping DoD had recognized the need for non-CAC access to e-mail.

SSG (Join to see) - same with evaluations too. Issue if an evaluation gets kicked back and someone retired and has retired ID instead of a CAC to sign it. Then it goes all paper signature and mail it in. Craziness.
