I have search on many different sites, and for the most part I find jobs that are generic postings that are old, scams, or minimal wage at best. The jobs that I feel I am qualified to do I am unable to do for all kinds of reasons. As anyone found any sites to be reliable and rewarding.

SrA Joshua Hagler ATTENTION TRANSITIONING MILITARY AND VETERANS!!!
The following is a "for us, by us" company that was created by veterans and employs veterans. All their recruiters are prior military and I have spoken at length with Bree (just to make sure it was not a scam). Bree has allowed me to share her contact information for anyone interested in utilizing their FREE services. The following is just a brief summary of what they can provide:

Orion is the nation's largest veteran placement firm. Each year they find careers for thousands of military professionals transitioning from service as well as veterans changing careers. Their services are completely free to veterans...they are funded by companies seeking military talent to be future leaders in their organization. Due to their expertise and proven success, these companies allow them to bypass their human resources screening process and present qualified candidates directly to hiring managers. All of their recruiters are former military, and they don't require you to work exclusively with them.

If interested Bree's contact information is:

http://www.USAjobs.gov if you can get a federal job, get your service time and government time incorporated for a retirement. I did just that and medically retired with 21.5 years of total service

Didn't you receive the Federal Benefits for Veterans, Dependants, and Survivers booklet in TAP? This booklet has a bit of resources and information

I did receive one, I think it's with my other military stuff right now. I guess I should thumb through it, in the TAPS I was in they kept saying how we have to prepared to be unemployed for a while and possible homeless. If it wasn't for my wife, I would be living out of my truck right now.

I retired and went to the united states postal service and used veterans preference its 10 points and they start at $15.75 an hour you can get the reference test at the library for free instead of the $99 they try to charge at a job search its an easy test worked for almost twenty years and left at $29,68 an hour

Its easy you go to the main post office and ask if they are taking apps for the area and get a list and then ask when the next test will be then study from the books at the library and take the test and if you are a vet tell them you want to claim veterans preference

It depends on your situation. There are two main avenues. Permanent position or contracting. Nothing except maybe civil service is permanent anymore. Contracting pays well especially OCONUS but never permanent.

SrA Joshua Hagler - I would take the test to see where you stand. They will not hire you till you have taken it.

You go to you main post office and ask if they are taking people for the post office test and then let them know that you are a retired vet and they will give you 10 points extra on the exam veterans preference and even if you don't want to carry then ask about being custodial for the offices.

Hi, Mr. Hagler. (who really won, between you and Hit-man Hearns?)! ha-ha.. you got it..
In response, one of my ad clients in our Vets Bus. Directory is an agency dedicated to placing/matching newly-transitioning service personnel with the right job opportunities for them to apply to. Check out her career board at http://www.military-civilian.com, and tell Lucy J. that Greg at 4vetsproject.org referred you!
Good Luck Sir;

Thanks sir, and I do know what you are saying. It was always a running joke in our family that if a cop pulls you over and asks if you are related to Marvelous Marvin you say yes. haha

Get to the library and check out "What Color Is Your Parachute". This book, around for more than thirty years has been updated dozens of times. It can help you decide what field you may want to enter. That is first. When I used it 23 years ago, it emphasized networking. It was very specific at how to network, what to do and say; today I know they spend a lot of time on the electronic updates and media that are out there. Find friends and relatives that may have information on careers that you find interesting, do some research and then ask them for an informational interview. Keep it short, and ask them who else you should talk to. Remember, this is after you decide what you want to be when you grow up. Good luck, you can do it.

The nice thing is that I just used the relatives network idea through my father-in-law and he is the HVAC trade and the SMART union. They want to hire me and get me started as soon as they can get the paperwork started. I just learned that as a Honorable Discharged vet I automatically in the union if I want to get in. I guess it's through the Helmets to Hardhats program.

When my son and daughter were looking for new employment, I recommended they join http://www.LinkedIn.com

You can upload your resume and follow many, many potential employers who list jobs on that site. You can even submit your resume/application on the site to these employers. There is a free level of membership that allows you to do this and a paid membership that provides you help in getting yourself known to potential employers.

I hope you the best of luck!

I am not aware of any "good" sites for jobs, however, it has been my experience that temp agencies are where most employers are actually filling their open positions from. You still have to be careful of scams, don't EVER pay someone to find you a job, they will pay you by charging the employer a usually twice what you're getting paid, and then cut you a check for your time. Hope that helps, and good luck.
