Situation: I got promoted this month to SSG. On my orders it has my PMOS as 11C30. It should say 12N30. My CoC is saying it's probably an error and they just listed it because it's a prior MOS I've held.

I also received orders transferring out of the unit so my UA is telling me it might be because they need me in that MOS at that unit.
Problem 1, I'm still trying to get in contact with my gaining unit.
Problem 2, I was under the impression there are no 11 series positions in the Reserves.
If anyone has in experience with a similar situation or have any advice please comment below.

And yes I know I need to get on my admin stuff as it can affect my career.

Needs off the Army regardless of component, I started out an 11B with about 4 or 5 ADMOS's While the Reserves did away with Combat Arms units it has plenty of former AD 11 Series positions out there. 11 Series Soldiers are sometimes like universal parts that can be slipped, beaten or forced into a running machine which is the Army normally. Sometimes its a clerical error sometimes it to get you promoted. I could be wrong and sometimes am, If you got picked up as an 11Series for promotion it could be because your current PMOS had higher numbers for promotion. Look at your Promotion orders it should show your Primary and secondary. MOS and what you were picked us as if I recall.

On a Side note I served in a Civil Affairs Battalion as an 11B and then an 11Z with no Infantry slots on the MTOE. But I did have one of the required MOS' on the UMR. It won't hurt you unless there is a glut of other Soldiers with your MOS, It pays to have secondary and additional MOS's come promotion time, you are more marketable to big Army :)

Thank you 1SG! CPT (Join to see) gave me a most likely reason, maybe I'm going to fill a 00F position since I'm going to a training command. My main concern was I know how small admin errors can come back and bite you in the ass. When I was first signing a contract for the reserves the RCCC looked on some system that said I ETS'd from AD in 2016, yet there I was in Italy in 2017 lol

Whatever slot they fit you into be the best that you can be. I have found that in the Reserves we tend to placed where we are needed, !!Series folks tend to be a bit intense in staff positions :) That old saying about garbage in, garbage out concerning data entry is very true. I would just sit down with your S-1 and go over you PQR or whatever they use these days, have supporting documentation available and see if there is any error that will slow your progression or boost it. I have found through experience that 11Series tend to rise quickly :)

Common misconception about there being no 11 series in the Reserves. You should change your profile to USAR so the Reserve people on here can see and better answer your question

SSG (Join to see) I clicked on it because I thought it was an AD question which would be an easy fix. The RC has very different promotion and slotting rules

SSG Williams, Having served on the Army Reserve promotion boards... Its possible that when you submitted or it was entered into the system, it listed your old NCO as an additional MOS. IF that is the case, the promotion board will look at all MOSs you have noted in the system. I reported this as an issue as soldiers should not be considered for promotion in an MOS they have competed in year (five to ten year time frame).

In any case, my guess is they popped it in as it was listed on your 2A or other document.

That said, there are many combat series MOS's available, especially in the training unit. Most are good opportunities for senior promotions (SFCs, MSGs and some SGMs). But it usually means more travel and some longer hours prepping for training weekends where you train soldiers on re-classification courses. But that might not be too bad as these days, cost of travel expenses are now becoming part of the position (whereas in the past these were out of pocket expenses). Even air travel is covered. Check with the new unit if they have a unit or detachment close to your home of record. They tend to be very flexible to work with to retain skilled instructors, especially if you're looking for future promotions and willing to travel. I took a stint and it turned my career around (was an SSG for 12 years before taking a position as a SFC in an MP Training unit). Eventuallly led me to reach the rank as a CSM for a 2-star general. So give it a try.
Good Luck and Congrats on the Promotion to SFC>

Thank you so much CSM Bob Stanek! I'm pretty fortunate the unit is close to home, at Camp Parks where I wanted to go anyways. I'm looking forward to the opportunities this new assignment may bring. And knowing my goal is to stay in until I reach at least 1SG, this assignment may offer networking and career development opportunities for me.
