Honor flight 660 trailer
All active duty stand down(but don't walk away, this will effect you later) Veterans does it ever bother you to hear that? "Thank you for your service" I apologize but it mmmm...bugs me something awful, telling me " your done go sit down and grow feeble " needs changed to something that endures like we do something like "YO JOE!" or another saying meaning get outta my way theres work to do and I ain't done yet! Forgive if I wasted your time, just wondering.

It actually bothers me more that we have veterans complaining about the way in which civilians express the.

Well, there are some civvies out there that don't like this Middle East war going on and they will let you know it. Not everyone likes the military and what we do for their lazy ass. Sorry, there I go again, ranting and raving. Oh well, I'm old and I'm grumpy sometimes.

It used to bother me in that I felt embarrassed and out of place. I viewed my service as something I owed my nation and the gratitude felt awkward. However, as I started running across more older veterans in my community I always thanked them and I realized how it made them feel. They truly appreciated someone thanking them and it gradually changed my feelings on it. Anymore, my reply is "you're welcome and thank you for the support!"

I now work in the service industry and wear an Army lapel pin every day, thanked by many people and I let those who are paving the way now know I am truly thankful for what they are doing and what they are risking. As a young man I would thank a veteran but I truly had no idea of the sacrifice that they were to give. For those that served before me I also thank because without them I would not have what I have today. Our service was in defense of what we hold dear. Always acknowledge the thanks you get for your service, and with a smile, if you can't smile and say your welcome your self than at least say it in honor of the men and women that gave their lives in the defense of the US, because they can't accept the thanks, and they paid the ultimate price.

Initially it made me think a bit the first time i heard it. However i realized that when someone comes and shakes your hand thanking you for your service. They are not thanking only you directly, they are thanking you and the thousands that served before you. You are the men who died in Normandy, you are the men you died in Iraq & Vietnam.
So when someone comes to shake your hand, you look them in the eyes and remember all the men who have died defending the constitution.

While it embarrasses me, there is no reason that I should let it bother me. It does, however, feel good to be appreciated. So, no, I am not offended.

I was honestly surprised the first time it happened. Since then, I make it a point to thank all the older vets, even if I'm in uniform. It seems like it makes their day in many cases.

I really enjoyed my time with 4/12 CAV back in 1985-87. The M60 crews during that time were truly epic.. entire platoons qualifying distinguished on Tank Table 8 and at least one a gunnery scoring a perfect 1000.

Just this morning I went to McDonalds for coffee and saw a group of gentlemen some were wearing military hats and some had lapel pins etc. I went over and thanked them all for their service...Their faces lit up, we talked for a little bit and then off to work I went. I always try to tell a military member past or present --- Thank you.

The vets on the street are different than the ones at the VA. The ones on the street are usually responsive and thank you. The ones at the VA don't want to talk to anyone. I've been in group with several new vets. When we've tried to make them feel comfortable and thank them, depending on the severity of their PTSD, they either sit back down with that 1000 yard stare and don't say anything, or they leave the group and we never see them again. It's a damn shame. We are concerned about the high level of suicide with these vets and wish so much we could help them. There's just so much you can do. We have our PTSD issues and can't allow them to drag us down. I'm sorry to say that, but unless you're walking in our shoes. I hope I haven't offended anyone.

The first times I heard it...I didn't know what to say. So I started saying I did it to avoid collage
and everyone laughed. later I felt I was belittling what they were saying to me and what they were saying to all of us. So now I just shake their hand and give them a "It was my honor"

I am guessing that you received a lump sum check when you got out and then went to the Va to get your disability rating if you did they will keep that payment till you pay back the lump sum then you will start receiving your pension plus your SSA
