Why don't we pay more attention and put more focus on school, workplace, and home shootings? And are we noticing a pattern of domestic terrorist? Or am I the only one noticing the armed white males shooting up a movie theater in Colorado, Sandy Hook elementary, UCSB, the Michigan uber driver, I could go on.

Terrorism is a real and significant threat, but terrorism works primarily through psychological methods... making people respond disproportionally to the events themselves. That is the whole point of terrorism. If we begin to let the threat of terrorism change our daily habits, change our schools, workplaces, and our homes, then we lose. There are 80,000 people a year who die from alcohol related incidents, 32,000 from car accidents, and 200,000 from medical mistakes, while terrorism, as tragic and sensational as it is, is in the handful or dozens. You are more likely to die just falling down your own stairs or by accidental drowning in a swimming pool. I'm not by any means trying to downplay the importance of defeating terrorist groups, nor the tragedies that they are capable of inflicting. When left unchecked, they can build up devastating capacities which are a national threat. We have to continue to deter and fight terrorist groups, but not change our lifestyle because of a movie theater shooting or a Michigan Uber driver.

LTC Yinon Weiss - Major; You are correct. The terrorists DO NOT win unless "we" let them win and "we" let them win by changing the way we live, work, and play through fear of what "they" MIGHT do.

White people shooting up people are not terrorist, they're mentally unstable. Black people are considered thugs. Mexicans are considered drug dealers. Asian is considered suicidal. And only Muslim would be consider terrorist.

It may be racist.. however I'm sure it is in the mainstream media guidebook, because that's the way it usually pans out.

I'm just stating the obvious....everything we already know but were afraid to repeat for fear of being label a racist. As for me, I'm not a racist, I do not see black and white because I have 3 color TVs in my home.

'Trump, who after almost every mass shooting has responded to questions on gun control with an answer about mental health, also noted the need for mental health institution reform. His plan states that "[f]amilies, without the ability to get the information needed to help those who are ailing, are too often not given the tool to help their loved ones." Beyond this statement, however, Trump gives no solution. Instead, writing that "there are promising reforms being developed in Congress that should receive bi-partisan support."'....http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/donald-trump-reveals-details-his-health-care-plan-n530701?cid=sm_fb

SSG (Join to see) - Staff; Requiring that there be an OVERRIDING "political" motivation before you classify an action as "terrorism" makes a lot of sense to me and would probably clarify the discussion quite a bit by severing off those who kill people simply because they want to watch a different TV program or to "get back" at them because they have been bullied (or can't get laid).

COL Ted Mc - Makes sense to me. Using Violence for a Political Goal would be a very good basic definition of Terrorism in my Book.

It's not always easy to distinguish the OVERRIDING motivation though, for example the San Bernadino shooting. If they had simply wanted to inflict maximum causalities to cause maximum terror, why not a busy shopping mall? Instead of easily killing hundreds they choose to go after people they knew and despised. The couple had a total of 1,600 rounds (1,400 for the rifles and 200 for the handguns) with them at the time of the shootout. 14 people were killed, it could have been far worse had the primary motivation actually been terror instead of revenge.
