Dozens of retired generals, admirals back Iran nuclear deal. Are They Right In Doing So?

How do you feel about the Generals supporting the Iran Nuclear plan. Do you think they understand the agreement better because they are Generals? My thoughts are, if they can understand the agreement and Obama's plan for the long haul, they're smarter than all of us.
Three dozen retired generals and admirals released an open letter Tuesday supporting the Iran nuclear deal and urging Congress to do the same.
Calling the agreement “the most effective means currently available to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons,” the letter said that gaining international support for military action against Iran, should that ever become necessary, “would only be possible if we have first given the diplomatic path a chance.”

Iran is,and will continue to build a bomb with sanctions. Ready for war? I want to see every Republican war hawk escort their wealhy children to the recruiter's office!

I don't think attempting a diplomatic solution would necessarily hurt but as the famous Gen. "Mad Dog" Mattis has said, "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet." I think that sums it up. Attempt a diplomatic solution and when it fails, and it will fail because Iran will build nuclear weapons again, then we go and dominate them to put it kindly. Anyone trying to harm US Forces or America, needs to remember how we deal with that. When Iran starts developing the means to harm us, squash it and then like a bug. Does anyone else agree? If not, why do you disagree?

No one who opposes the deal has proposed a single valid alternative. All they've done is throw darts at it since Obama pushed it through. I would be willing to bet that the same kind of opposition was faced, for instance, when Nixon signed the treaty with China...

LCDR Rabbi Jaron Matlow -I am not sure what the right solution is to deal with Iran. I do know that Israel will not let Iran get the upper hand on them. They have proven time and time again that they are not to be messed with. In the end it does not matter what the US does or does not do if Israel decides to use force against Iran.
The Mullahs are only slightly less crazy than Koreas Kim’s and would use WMD’s against Israel if they thought that they could take them down without any repercussions.

SSG John Erny sadly the radical Islamists might act with WMD even if they are concerned about repercussions, because to die in Jihad is a righteous death to them...

I think we will have one too; I think ISIS is the more immediate threat though, and we're doing basically nothing about them... They now control large chunks of the ME and Africa, and Europe isn't that far away...

Yes, no, maybe? Does anyone...especially those who made the agreement...even know what it says? What little we know, make it sound like a terrible agreement but who knows?

MSG Brad Sand, I don't believe anyone, outside of Kerry and the Itanians, know what the real deal is. I suspect more are like myself and just doesn't trust Iran. They hate us, as do most Middle East countries. We'll just have to wait and see.

I know one of the Generals who supports the Iran Nuclear Agreement General Joe Hoar USMCret..We went to the same high school in MA...He more than likely studied it & decided this agreement was a better option than going to war.. But I wonder how many Generals who are active support this agreement with Iran??

General Dempsey did express grave concern for releasing the sanctions on missile development by Iran.. But I was really surprised to see Gen Joe Hoar sign off on this agreement. I think Gen Dunford is still studying it & would like to hear what he has to say about this agreement.

We may like or not like the current plan but we've hit the point where we can't wind the clock back. We all hate having to clean up someone else's mess. It may be the lessor mess down the road. Who knows? The USA cannot go much anything alone anymore. We've shot our wad the past 50 years being the policeman of the Earth, racking up toxic levels of debt.
So like others, we need to be prepared to follow through and need other nations chipping in to do it as well. Also, I'm waiting for a Presidential candidate to say our military will be a "Fee for Service" organization. Other countries chip in resources to protect sea lanes etc. or pay us to do it. Same thing should apply for things we support. If we don't see much service from the UN, then we shouldn't be paying for it. If Trump got hold of this idea, he'd likely go too far with it suggesting we figure out the pro rata cost for the last 50 years and write off shares of the National Debt for it.

That's the thing about generals and admirals. When it comes to this stuff, they're SUPPOSED to be smarter than us. Even Bill O'Reilly backs the damn deal because there are no alternatives. WWIII or an economically invested Iran. Those are your choices and Iran knows it.
