I've been attempting for a few years now to volunteer for DSC. I've contacted the DS branch who in turns, contacts my branch, who then does not grant my request. Anyone out there have any other ideas? I got some other schools coming up in the next few months, so I would have to wait anyways, but just trying to get a jump things. Thanks

Here is how it used to work SSG Boca.  DS Branch is responsible to fill "X amount" of slots.  Those slots are divided amongst the other Branches to fill.  Some Branches do not receive a DS mission and therefore rarely entertain a volunteer packet.  Another course of action for you to try would be to talk to your 1SG and CSM.  Maybe a call from your CoC to your PDNCO may help.  You may also try your Career Counselor.  Good luck.

MSG,
Both good avenues of approach I have yet to explore. It's funny you mention some  branches not receiving the DS mission; I was trying to remember of any fellow mechanics I've met along the way with DS experience and it was getting to be a bit difficult. I will however try both approaches, thanks for your response.

SSG Boca - I have a recent gain - SFC 91X4O that just came off Drill Status, so YES, there are slots for mechanics

When I was a Drill Sergeant we had a SFC Career Counselor who had a DSB come  through because he had to reclassify into the Infantry. Was his bad luck to show up week 1 of a 14 week cycle, we used him as a demonstrator for most events. Was always awkward having him go to parade rest for a SSG, he was pretty squared away and set the example for the trainees during all training events.

Recently the mission of DS and Recruiter branch to fill slots has changed from DA select to slots being allocated by MOS to Corps and Divisions offering the opportunity for more volunteers that are qualified to fill slots to step forward and fill requirements. Contact your 1SG and see if this is the case for your installation, of course all I did was pick up the phone and call my branch manager and two days later I had orders for DS School.

1SG,
I'm definitely going to try and go through my CoC, but I'm also going to continue my branch as well, maybe if they see I continue to request it, they'll just give me the darn thing.

Yea, I've had the option selected for years, I feel as I'm running out of options.
