Yes. With experience comes rank and respect. I will assume this individual was in a critical MOS and was prmoted quickly in order to retain him/her.

I’m a little surprised here. Comments seem to be fair as to speed of a person to be promoted needs to rest with their ability to soak up the necessary leadership requirements for the rank. This is not just to the bottom of the enlisted ranks. 2LTs coming out of some podunk div III college with a degree in basketweaving is in the same position as the E5 or E6 promoted in 3-4 years. Both need to shut up and listen to older more wiser soldiers before they try to take on the world.

Yep, it is certainly doable, top performers typically standout, the key here is to take the opportunity to improve your skill sets and earn the respect of your subordinates ,superiors and piers , never sale yourself short

IMHO Many times it has to do with senior leadership and MOS. Many MOS's got funneled together at SFC which slows the promotion at lower levels. JMT

I don't think it is in some circumstances. Especially if they come in as an E4. Hard charger. Promoted in a year to E5. 2 more to E6. Makes E6 in 3 years.

I made E6 / UT1 within 5 yrs. Came in as a E3, but that was it for the next 7 yrs after I became eligible for Chief /E7 wasn't happening when they give the advancement exams just once a year and only make 3 to 4, E7 a year makes it a little hard compared to other rates in the Navy

Yes, I have run into Senior NCO's that advanced quickly and then was frustrated because they didn't know how to handle Soldiers, didn't understand Military protocol and knew nothing of field operations which resulted in taking it out those that did. I believe in the rite of passage and to become a Senior NCO you should spend time in each rank and earn that rank.

When I was in one had to have 10 years time in service before one could take exam for E7, but that was (peacetime) Navy.

I's say Yes! Possibly! For most individuals the answer is probably Yes, however, it really depends on the individual and their maturity!!

SFC Robert Walton
SSG William Ryan Yes the Promotion system is set up so it is possible to get to the rank in with TIS and TIG i think the question here is the individual ready and capable for the rank that fast? The Answer is no when under pressure Most fail that is proven with the leadership problem they have in the Military today.

YES YES YES YES!!!! Did I make myself clear. It like giving a bloody gun to a non trained soldier.........E6 is and has always been a hard earned right of passage to be an LPO or Supervisor and should not just be handed out. In my rate C school was required + experience + the test. It was no less than 6 years. If it was it was a true anomaly. I myself made e-4 from A school....<1 year. Earned. Then e-5 year 3. Served rest of my time as e-5. E-6 is something I never strived for. Those guys busted their giblets. Never to be given. Never. You earn the right to first class whether by plane by train or by military rank. I believe not in hand outs.
