What rank could my nephew enlist as with around 31 college credit hours? I'm not sure, I did not have any when I did. We obviously utilized Google, however, you get multiple answers that aren't exactly clear.

Check and see, I know that if you went through high school ROTC you got to go into the army as an E3 when I enlisted back in 1994.

I had a bachelor's degree and I went in as a specialist E4. Honesty, I don't know what 31 credits would help but if he had an Associates of Arts degree, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt but I'm not sure about the number of units you have. The only other way is if you had somebody else enlist with you I think they can grant you E2 status.

With the army so short-handed of people, check with your recruiter and see how flexible they are.

I’d check with a recruiter to be a 100% sure what the possibilities are. With High School to Flight School still a possibility I believe there’s more than one correct answer here

When I enlisted in 1983, the had a program called "Civilian Acquired Skills" which allowed one to enter as an E3, which I did.

What did the recruiter say? Any info from this site will be dated and possibly outdated. Contracts come and go and so do enlistment incentives. In the past Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard have offered E3 with 20 plus college credits or a certificate from JROTC. USMC will give E2 for the same things. But the recruiter is the only resource you need to go off of as they ill have recent information.

Unless the rules that changed recently, for the Army, 24 Credit Hours gets you E-2, 48 gets you E-3 and a four year Degree gets you E-4.
It maxed out at E-3 when I enlisted with a Degree in 1982.
Check with your local recruiter for the current rules.

For the Army:
E2 requires 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours.
E3 requires 48 semester hours, 72 quarter hours, or an associates degree complete.
