The nation is divided over whether stricter laws would pass -- or stop mass shootings.

In the wake of mass shootings -- of which there have already been more than 200 this year -- the satirical publication The Onion has taken to reprinting a headline that reads, "'No Way To Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens."

That sentiment appears to ring true for many Americans as the nation reels from yet another shooting. A new HuffPost/YouGov poll finds that while Americans generally favor stricter gun laws, fewer are convinced that gun regulation is either possible to implement or likely to make a difference, and even supporters of more legislation are unlikely to name gun control as a top issue.

I truly don't think it would. I don't think they will pass because there are actually a lot of democrats who don't think that is the answer. Additionally I don't think it would stop mass shootings. People who are going to do terrible things won't be stopped by not being able to obtain their gun legally (and many don't).

I think the answer is in reducing the number of random guns on the street by making them less easy to get. There are many people out there right now who, on a whim, go buy a gun and then either lose it, sell it off, or just stash it. If we required some level of training, certification and proficiency event, we could reduce the number of "casual" gun owners while still maintaining the right of everyone to carry if they wished. Rational and logical gun control is the answer. Until the country learns that, nothing is going to change.

I think it is wrong to impose on others stupid legislation.
