For those who didn't know today is Vietnam Veterans Day. Welcome home you all deserve the respect you didn't get 40 years ago.

...and for those who never received a proper reception, our most sincere, respectful, and heartfelt "Thank you," and "Welcome Home!"

So there I was with four years in and getting pressured to go to my SSG board. I called up my VFW battle buddy bestie and expressed my concerns that I wasn't ready.

Mr. Richard Jacobs, infantry Vietnam veteran who served with the 18th Infantry Regiment, told me this "when I was 20 I took over as platoon sergeant because I was the highest ranking NCO left in our platoon. You'll pick it up as you go and you'll do just fine".

Thanks to all the Vietnam veterans who fought so hard then and fight now to ensure we never receive the homecoming they did.

SSG woods:

Respectfully, your battle is right, and rank is given as a recognition and a trust to provide you with more responsibilities and duties. The trust is the belief that you will fulfill the obligations and grow into those big boots.

Rank is not given to belittle or bully someone! For all of those that have served and paved the way, all of us have come up on big shoulders. Great leaders honor those that have served before us!

“Brave men fought and died building a reputation I uphold.” – All leaders stand on the shoulders of those who came before them. Great leaders honor the past.
