I do not want to see our guns taken away especially if they were purchased legally. What I have an issue with is those who think the 2nd amendment protects us today when it simply doesn't. This is why when it was written that there were other amendments created to counter that. Yes you can own a weapon, but if we decide you can no longer have it then we will make that decision (amendment14) or we give the power to the state to make that decision amendment15) The 2nd amendment is based off English Civil Law from well over 400 years ago. Remember they have no right to take away a law or amendment, but they can add to. So please this is what I am viewing on a lot of discussion boards, and I figured I would bring it up

This is purely for my curiosity. I know since this is a military site, most people on here are against strict gun control, but I am interested in hearing the thoughts of other service members on this subject.<div><br></div><div>So if you would please,</div><div>State if you are FOR or AGAINST gun control,</div><div>why you think we should or should not have stricter gun law,</div><div>and any other thoughts concerning the topic.</div><div><br></div><div>(this is not to start an argument or anything as it surely has the ability to. I just want to see an honest debate and/or collaboration of ideas on the matter)</div>

From what I understand the 2nd Amendment isn't meant to protect us per se.
The Bill of Rights is a codification of our inalienable rights as free men. It is simply written down so they are understandable to all. Mostly because many people back then were illiterate. These rights can't be given away or taken away. They just are. We either choose to exercise them or we choose not to.
Maybe I'm missing the point of your posting. I apologize if I am.
