In the wake of the Charleston massacre, NRA board member Charles Cotton blamed the massacre on the pastor. He said,
"And he voted against concealed-carry. Eight of his church members who might be alive if he had expressly allowed members to carry handguns in church are dead. Innocent people died because of his position on a political issue."
It doesn't matter how you slice it. That statement was patently wrong and utterly ridiculous. The pastor did not hold the shooter's hand or commit any offense aside from being black. While he wasn't speaking officially for the NRA, his comments reflect the mentality and perspective he brings to the table when the organization is making decisions.
I grew up in a very pro-2A family, but my father cancelled his NRA membership because he felt it was heading in the wrong direction. That it had increasingly shed reason and practicality in favor of extreme positions arrived at through fear (or possibly corruption). He felt the organization no longer represented the actual desires and concerns of most gun owners and has actually served to turn public opinion against gun ownership. I tend to agree with him.

This was a horrible statement to make! The interpretation of 2A and it's support in it's current form will not allow it to be changed to support IMHO, effective gun control, because too many feel their rights will be infringed while those who side step the law, like the Charleston shooter, will still manage to get a hold of them. People that don't believe in carrying are still not going to carry, despite what the NRA may or may not think. IMHO, I don't believe that any of the unfortunate victims of this crime were gun carriers and would have pleaded religiously for the shooter to stop even if they were carrying. No one is at fault here because of a political decision.

IMHO The NRA are a bunch of bat-Scheiße fear-mongering white guys. Lapierre is at the front of that list.

I am a Benifactor member of the NRA. I do not agree with everything the NRA says but they are important when it comes to defending the 2A. Some on the left would love to make it impossible for anyone to have any kind of fire arm.

SGT Jeremiah B.
SSG John Erny , I agree they serve a purpose. I just wonder if they've stepped off the far end and its time to find more rational actors able to fight to preserve the spirit of the 2A while providing practical solutions to real problems.

SGT Jeremiah B. - They have been like this before back in the 90's. Those like myself who vote on the directors really should pay closer attention to whom we elect.

Wrong. This is a house of worship not a war zone. I do not understand how he was able to reload without someone taking him down.

The NRA is a lobby not for the gun owners but for the gun manufacturers..you have to have a clientele so they target that sector of society that uses firearms.

I am a Life Member of the NRA but I do feel that the direction that is currently being taken is for profit not for the gun owners rights and I am not really happy with this direction.
