When I started school and I encountered a veteran who was unruly, rude, and always wanted to "whip it out and have a dong measuring contest". I generally just ignored this guy.

I always tried to be friendly to this guy just because we were both enlisted guys in a graduate program, but no matter what he always had a chip on his soldier about various things.

How have you handled similar conflict

PO1 Dave Martin , ignore them - or if they are being a spectacle in class or something flip it around and one up them with a ridiculous and sarcastic response that even laymen know is a joke and that you are calling that person out as a braggart. Generally speaking though I ignore them and if they force a reply I just give them something like "I didn't serve my country to make up for a feeling of inadequacy..." - and leave it at that.

This person is not a braggart they are just rude to other vets in our class. More like degrading everyone else. Since I am the only prior enlisted guy in our class a few officers who are still in the guard asked me to say something to him. In a manner that he needs to tone it done because hes making everyone else mad and nobody like him.

He seems bitter that he joined the Marines and never deployed. I told him I do not care what he did in the service because most of us are out of the military with the exception of a few officers still in the reserves and a few on active duty who are getting a masters paid for by their respective service. I told him everyone's tired of his crap and that he is the most disliked person in our class and that hes embarrassing me as well as the only other prior enlisted guy.

I'm glad you had the conversation with him. I might have worded it differently but none the less I think you explained to him how he is being perceived and how that affects him as well as others in the class. Hopefully he will take this as constructive criticism.

I actually discontinued my education with UOP because of similar. I had 2 guys in some of my classes I got along with. Many of the others were non-rate vets who ran their mouths and did little to contribute. You could tell who was there for the BAH. It's sad to say but you will see this everywhere. Just be you, handle it in a decent manner, and drive on.

They are pretty common to be honest. They are the entitled vet class. They must be praised because they are better. They do far more damage to the very community then they realize.

I agree. This guy is a Marine who never deployed and seems bitter about it. So he trys to act like a tough guy to the other vets in our class.

He seems to have an inferiority complex. Its gotten to the point that hes just more obnoxious now than anything.

PO1 Dave Martin - I would just be cautious around them. They are eager to prove themselves more often.

/\ This!

It's sad. However, we do have a large class of vets that are just the same as the generation they talk down about. Entitled class...

After figuring out that they were a one upper, I disengaged from the conversation and leave them alone.
