So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

My husband and I, both veteran, we're at Applebee's for veterans day. We see a guy with a beard in dress navy uniform. As we walk by we see he's wearing Nike's. He's sitting at the bar by himself. We never called him out. I believe a true veteran that wanted to wear his uniform would do it to standard. Most active duty don't have a shaving and shoe profile at the same time (white guy) and there is no navy installations here.

Sgt George Walters - Yup, my hair goes below shoulders but otherwise you detailed me exactomundo! However, I do see a ton of ballcaps at the VA hospital or clinic I go to so for those old geezer-vets not too hard to spot them. Just saying...

SPC Kari Grove Wright - The point of this post was?!?! Obviously the man was arrested, because he had three outstanding warrants and not because he was claiming he was a homeless Veteran. The title itself is mis-leading unless you read the article.

I"ll be sixty-five this year, I wear my VietNam Vet ball cap, and I wear my hair long....I've earned the right to wear MY hair how I want it.......I prefer no haircuts.....I have a beard, , thats how I like to dress. I was a medic in VietNam....I know what I did, and I make no bones about it to anyone else. If YOU want to wear your hair short, then do so.....but dont tell me how to wear mine. Back on the operating room table, everyone bled red.....they were all the same, Maj, Lt., Cpt. Pvt.....it didnt matter. I dont like seeing stolen valor.....I"m proud of my fellow vets. Keep smlin.

I retired 24 years ago from the Navy. Back then in the Navy and Marine Corps, calling someone an E7; or by the pay grade, meant they came to work get their paycheck and then went home, or they retired on active duty. I was as a Chief Petty Officer not an E7.

I have only been in 6 years, but I can tell you this. I've never heard any of my CPO's refer to themselves or any other Chief as an E7 petty officer.

Every Chief I ever knew professionally or personally was ALWAYS called Chief, Senior Chief or Master Chief wether in or out of uniform. And I was close friends with several PO1s who were promoted to Chief. I no longer called them by name it was always Chief. I stand corrected on the last statement I amend as follows....I call them by name ONLY if the 2 of us were in private with no other rank in area otherwise it was ALWAYS Chief.

Appreciate the respect, PO1 Dennis Herdina. However the only time I hear that is on RP and on the infrequent occasion I wear my cap. Even on RP, I have told members to feel free to call me by my first name. I don't like being called by my last name, takes me back to a time enlisteds PO1 and below were looked down on.

Several Navy Corpsmen that I knew had seriously dicked up uniforms. But that was in the 80s and 90s.

I got out in 72 so wore my field jacket minus the rank pins for years in the winter we mostly hid or denied any service back then. Even the VFW and the Legion didn't want us around. You younger people should be glad that you're respected enough to be imitated.

I knew a guy once his name was Harold I think but anyhow he worked in the convenience store in Mississippi. He was one of these loudmouth braggart types, always had a story and he was always the hero blah blah blah blah blah. I didn't get a chance to serve in the military although I wanted to, but my father was a veteran and most of my relatives are veterans and my wife spent 22 years in the Air Force. So it goes without saying that I have great respect for the military and the people who serve, and that's why this guy sticks in my head. Throughout my life I've known a lot of military people actually four of those people were Navy Seals. Of the four Navy Seals that I knew, they all had one thing in common. They didn't talk about the job to people who weren't Navy Seals, and they did not brag about being a Navy SEAL. These guys were extremely even tempered which I would suppose having that sort of training you probably need to be, but anyhow this asshole up on my first meeting with him told me that he was a Navy SEAL. Now keep in mind I did not know him personally, I just came into the Exxon station to buy a pack of cigarettes and he started talking to me. I'm not exactly sure how we got to the " I'm a Navy SEAL" conversation in the first three sentences, but we did. Like I said I've known a few seals and I've known a lot of military people and I knew this guy was full of shit in the first 2 minutes. I played stupid and asked him what's the quickest way to kill someone because I've heard that Navy Seals are trained to kill you in about 50 different ways. No I have not heard that I just said that to him because he was talking shit and I didn't believe him. So he walks out from behind the counter and he stood in front of me he put one foot behind him and at the same time raised his right arm to indicate that he was going to push my nose in the back of my skull. But instead of launching forward he launched backwards which would have been completely ineffective and not to mention when he made his strike he took his eyes off me completely and was looking at the ground. I am not a Navy SEAL but I know enough about fighting to know that I could have kicked his ass in a heartbeat, and I think a Navy SEAL would have kicked his ass on General principle. I hate when people do that shit because I think it's a slap in the face to everyone who served in the military and everyone who lost friends in the military. If you did not serve in the military you do not get to pretend that you did and pretending that you were seal can easily get your ass kicked. That's just my story

I am a retired Marine Corps Gunny, Vietnam Veteran. Although I believe the stolen valor law was struck down, these posers should be held accountable for what they are doing. It's wrong, it's un-patriotic and its immoral.

I'd open by greeting him with; Semper Fidelis , and then I'd take it from there. Somewhere during the course of my Parris Island interrogation he'll start to accidentally tell the truth.

I asked a poser once if the Swamp was as tough as the reputation. Didn't know what the Swamp was.
