So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

Just thought of something regarding parts of the replies to this. At a local restaurant, and this young lady was wearing a USAF Class A uniform blue jacket, with E-5 stripes. I asked her about the uniform, and she said she was wearing it, as she was proud of her father, a retired USAF NCO not in good health. He had given it to her after he was promoted to E-6, and she loved it. No claiming to be something she wasn't, no looking for any comment or problems, just a young female college student, working to pay her way through school. Did notice something though, she appreciated all our military, as there were some younger people in there, of various branches, and she made sure to say "Thank You for your service" to every one of them. (She made sure and even said it to this old soldier when she noticed the "Retired Army" cap I was carrying.)

My late Father-in-Law was awarded the bronze star during the Battle of the Bulge with the 3rd Army. I wear a small replica bronze star on my veterans ball cap on the right side and when asked, I will immediately state the reason. He earned it, I honor him. I also have the wings my Dad earned in the Air Corps as a left side door gunner on a B-24.

I think warrant officer are the best of both worlds, my company commanders were both warrant officers in boot camp. my kids are pretty proud to tell people my dad was in the Navy, even though they were born 15 years after the fact, they are 10,10, & 8

I am a proud Marine brat. My father served in Vietnam. I am now a truck driver. I and a guy approach me at our terminal one day and was bragging about his career in the Army. When he asked me for a cigarette and I handed him my lighter he asked if I was Navy. I had to laugh to keep from cursing him out. I just walked away

In 2006, shortly after I got out of the Air Force and joined U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) at L.A./Long Beach Seaport, I met this one space cadet at a Long Beach video arcade. Easily about 50 pounds overweight, and the facial appearance, speaking style, body language, and demeanor of someone who just wasn't all there. In about 5 minutes' time, he claimed to have been Special Forces, a Marine sniper, and a "demolitions expert." I tried to call him on his bluff by asking what specific units and deployment locations he served in, and he copped out with the vague answer of "You name it, I've been there."

The only reason I didn't rip him a new asshole was that, based on his aforementioned demeanor, etc, he seemed so mentally far gone that in his own little world, he genuinely believed his own bullshit.

I served proudly , 4/7 th air cave Korea, the big red 1, ft Riley, 101 st airborne ft Campbell , I wasn't a war hero , I wasn't a ranger , I wasn't special forces , I wasn't a navy seal . I was a helicopter crew chief , I was a soldier , I don't need to pretend to be something I wasn't . Whatever the job you had in the military should be your badge of honor.

We had a guy show up at our VFW Post 3 or 4 months ago and claim to have Bronze Star, Silver Star and MOH...................I went home, pulled up the MOH website that has info on EVERY person EVER to recieve the MOH.............one guy with his last name and it wasnt him. Saw him in there again the next evening and ask to have a private conversation..............I explained how I found him out, told him there is now a federal law against stolen valor.............have not even seen him in town since.

Honestly I'm just a civilian and I could recognize standard issue uniforms and uniform regulations better than that guy! lol My buddy was a Sergeant First Class in the Army National Guard, he gave me his old OCP Uniform, an ISAF Patch, American Flag patch and even the U.S. Army patch but out of respect for our soldiers, I wouldn't be stupid enough to wear the uniform that's why I'm looking into Army enlistment so I can earn the right to wear it, i'd just have to get my bootcamp issued patches and uniforms, since my buddy was 34th Infantry in the Army National Guard I couldn't use it if I earned the uniform because I'm planning for the Full Time Army and 34th Infantry is in the National Guard! This stolen valor guy though, he must be a special kind of stupid! ~Corey Anderson // Potential Army Recruit.
