Make isn't the issue. Convince is. See the instructor, do up a list of pros and cons and sit down with your dad.

Get the unit's top enlisted instructor to come to your home and visit with your parents or parent.

JROTC couls well be a step toward a long career in the military. I agree with LTC Brown that you should be getting a list of pros and cons and maybe schedule appointment with school counselors, your dad, the JROTC folks and yourself. Be positive about it and, I am saying this as a parent, listen to what your dad has to say as well rather than getting upset... remain calm and show him you are responsible and mature enough to handle whatever additional load JROTC will involve..good luck

First, you're a kid, you don't "make" your parents do a damn thing. Second, what is your parents' objections to the JROTC program? Lastly, perhaps you should just sit down and have a discussion with your parents instead of asking pointless and unanswerable questions to a bunch of adult strangers on the internet.

Sp/4 dale Winblad I was a JROTC member in the late 1950's . I just convinced my parents that it was a good experience for me ( my dad was kind of a pacifist). After I received firearms training , he even bought my first Rifle (which I still own). I am a certified firearms instructor and pass on the heritage of responsible firearms ownership and service to country.

Sp/4 Dale Winblad I was in JROTC at Lane Tech in Chicago. Our ROTC was la4ge enough to be considered a Battle Group in organization. One of my Military instructors was named Gunderson, whose son , Norman, was also a class behind me. We had enough M-1 rifles , BAR'S , ETC to outfit a whole company. We had a full company that represented all 9 periods of the school day. The period that had the highest academic scores was selected to carry the M-1's when we paraded.
